Excellent Electronics simulation site !

Wow !!!

This is so cool. I'm not saying you can learn everything about electronics from it, but it does provide a very visual way of how electronics (circuits) work!

Specially interesting for some of you (I think):

Ohms Law (How resistors work): http://www.falstad.com/circuit/e-ohms.html

Note that anything blue can be switched (switches or Hi/Low) or values edited (right click).

F.I. here's completely clear how a capacitor works:
http://www.falstad.com/circuit/e-cap.html

Or a diode:http://www.falstad.com/circuit/e-diodevar.html
(Edit the Voltage on top to a negative voltage and you will see no current is flowing).

Following this: half-wave rectifier (as often used on older PCB's where AC was input and the DC was created ON the game PCB.)

Then you go to the full-wave rectifier, always a bit hard to understand, but the flow is very visible in this one and makes it clear:
http://www.falstad.com/circuit/e-fullrect.html

And if you combine the full-wave rectifier with a capacitor, you will understand the basics of how a (conventional) AC to DC voltage supply works:
http://www.falstad.com/circuit/e-fullrectf.html

Something more:

Schmitt Trigger: http://www.falstad.com/circuit/e-amp-schmitt.html
This is used f.i. on trackball inputs. The signals from the LED's are not "clean" enough for further processing in the digital circuits of the game PCB, so that's why a Schmitt Trigger is used to "clean" the signal (so that is either high or low and nothing in between.

You can see on this that the high frequency (1 kHz "noise") is of almost no influence on the output signal.

You can also see that the Trigger "Flips" at exactly a certain level of the input low frequency (40 Hz.)

I checked it and bookmarked for later use when you posted this thread (even forwarded it to a friend who's into Arduino who found it very useful).
...but really it's too sunny outside for me to study atm  ;)

You're right....it is sunny, and we had a lot of fun and marching and sun yesterday at Queens day, so today...we have a very calm day, re-assembling the Asterock in the back yard.

Goal is to finish her. Today.

Well if you prefer caressing the buttons and wiggling the joystick of a "He" against a wall in a dirty gameroom for hours, it's your choice Ully.
I'd rather think of it as a "She" if you don't mind...

an arcade cabinet is an enemy, not my friend, i want to beat it! to me this is like rocky balboa vs ivan drago and not romeo & juliet eternal love whatever crap

Oh, you're more the SM type?
Well have fun with the tall boys waiting for you in your "gameroom" then...

LOL !!!

Well, well, the reason why I call the Asterock a she is ......

OK, honestly I'd say Asteroids is a totally male game. I agree with Ully on that.

However, because, compared to the original cab, the Astrock is such a lean and slender and gracious machine, I just called her a she :P

Maybe, there is some deep Freudian reason too.....it doesn't have a joystick, only buttons :P :P :P

Also, Rock sounds like rok which in Dutch means skirt.

 ;D ;D ;D ;D
