WTB replica half-size arcade cabinet
« on: August 11, 2015, 06:12:21 PM »
A picture says more than 1000 words; basically i'm looking for a smaller replica of a bigger cab (pacman, galaga, something else?) a bit like this:

Not really any requirements, but must run a CRT or be able to have one mounted by me, and in good cosmetic shape. Any tips where to get one in Holland or not far from it are welcome!

I would build it myself  ;)

I have done the mini pong for eurocade in 2012 , and this years Eurocade piggybank.

both scale 2:1

Mini pong : https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=3613.0

This years project is still a secret.
That will be revealed at Eurocade.

I guess you are from holland as you are asking for one in holland.
Come to Eurocade and check it out in real life   :D

I dont really have the woodworking skills to make it as nice as i would want is, plus with a kid i'm happy i can squeeze in a few games a week let alone build something like that :) Eurocade does look nice, i've checked it in the pre-hilversum days and it seemed to be pretty closed to people that bring cabs back then. I'll check to see the current rules for visitors, thanks for the tip :)

That's still the ground rule.  :)

If you got some money to spend I would certainly take a look a these ones.
You have to ship them from England, but they do look gorgeous !

I have seen the Nintendo-cabs from Chrisgonz over at J+ in the flesh, and they are indeed very nice. Good build quality as well.
All I wanted was a Pepsi!
Currently looking for an original Wonderboy PCB.

I know the feeling, i do have the skills, but i am also limited in time.

also if i count the hours i spend building it, its not going to justify the price.

if i had all the time in the world, i would build it for you, but unfortunately i have a heavy work schedule, and on top of that a family  ;D

The one on marktplaats looks like a nice cabinet for its price.

but you say you want to mount a CRT in it, so you first need to determine the size of that, and base you scale on that.

Do you want to install a pc monitor in there, or a real Arcade monitor, or a TV ?
many of the smaller Arcade monitors are 13 or 14".
The standard monitor in an arcade cabinet bitd was 19 - 20" , so thats not 1:2 scale.

I based all my mini builds untill now on the monitor size i used in those projects.
for example, the minipong has a 7" monitor, and the Original has a 14 - 15 inch AFAIK, so thats 1:2 scale.

Same for the current build i did, but i cannot tell about that, as its still a secret  ::)

i can say that its also 1:2 scale based on the monitor i used.

Because I wanted a cab in my office, I was also looking into scaled down versions.
Gaël, really cool French guy provided me with the links to the plans of a scaled down Nintendo cab.
I inquired around in Belgium and it would cost me about 200€ to have wood cut according to these plans.
Then you still have to assemble the wood, sand, paint, and populate with controls, door, etc...
A lot of work but worth it imho!
Edit: it's not exactly 1/2size because I wanted to fit a real 19'' CRT in it.
It's more like 3/5.

Thanks for the links guys. I'll check out the marktplaats ones, but the UK ones from jammaplus seem way nicer as it seems. I will email him, see what the shipping options are and if that's doable. I said half size but maybe that's a bit on the small side, it doesnt have to be exactly half sized.

For monitors i'm flexible, i don't have any arcade or inframe monitors else i'd use those, i do have some 17" PC CRT's or commodore 1084's and +-37cm trinitron tv's around so i'd  like to use those. Most likely the 17" PC monitor if possible, would be much easier to connect to emulation and for me personally i'm happy running that in 640*480 with scanlines.

Well, the advertisement itself had all the signs, but communication with the marktplaats one went something like this
Q: could you tell me what kind of monitor is currently installed in the cabinet?
A: ????????? A good one !!!

Right, on to the uk it is :)

 ;D
I just asked the seller 3 more questions.

What is actually running inside the cab, if the cab is Jamma wired and if the monitor inside is a CRT or not.

All I got back as an answer was 3 questionmarks and some pictures (from the outside of the cab).

What's the problem with answering some questions about a product you want to sell ? Such people on Marktplaats, I just don't get it.

Well, on the other hand, I got 1 question answered. From the pictures I can tell you it's a CRT monitor  :D

well, the seller just dont know what you mean, and i can understand that if its not a collector / technical person.

sounds like the seller is just somebody that has bought this also and now sells it.

But i understand your feeling  :D

Sure, you are right.

But I'm just surprised a lot of people nowadays don't have decency to just answer a question.
