Tron Upright
« on: October 26, 2014, 09:42:54 AM »
I am trying to use a LCD monitor in place of the 19" CRT CGA Vision Pro I have now in it, as the monitor needs to be yet fixed again. I am done, I just want to use the LCD. I have a converter, I connect the wires, plug in the converter and lcd,but no signal, I switch thru everything. I guess maybe I have it wired wrong? What is the pinout? I have Red,Blue,Green,White,Yellow with a silver intwined wire,2 black and a gray. So I guess what I am trying to get here is this:
Blck=ground
Red=Red
Blue=Blue
Green=Green
White=Vertical Synch
Gray=Horizontal Synch
Yellow\Silver=Signal
 and if possble Red to Red, Blue to Blue,and so forth,but connecting same color wires does no good right as of now. Tron is the older boards, MCRII, non Jamma.

 I also was thinking of using this http://www.ebay.com/itm/110934177453?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT  .
Anyone use one of those? My crt tube is 10 pin, yoke ohms is 15 ohms low impedance and 45 ohms High Impedance. or something like that. I recapped this chassis, and was working, then either the flyback or horizontal out went bad, maybe both. The monitor was about one and a half years old when I got this tron unit, worked great, then the picture started being distorted and I saw a few caps swollen, so recapped, then about 4 or 6 months later, the picture horizontal started to close until no raster, nothing, black screen as if it was not turned on.
 Sorry so long of a post, trying to be thorough to be helpful.

LCD in a classic game.......it's like subscribing to a Catholic forum and saying you want to convert to the Islam in your first post.

First of all....it is kind of expected here to do an introduction post about yourself, tell a bit about yourself, your location (about), your machines, the interest in the hobby etc.

Second, there will be very very few people here (if at all) with a LCD in a classic original machine so I think few of us can help you, nor will the most of us sympathize with your idea of putting a LCD in a classic cab.

The Vision Pro's don't have a very good reputation and those cheap Chinese replacement chassis you linked to don't have a good reputation either, although I have no personal experience with either.

The best you can do is find a reliable original monitor from the 80s, like a G07 for instance and put that in your cab.

A LCD display will look really bad. It is too flat, the colors are wrong, there will be trouble with resolutions and the blacks will never be black.

heyho. nice to see a new member. intruduction would be cool indeed. and please: no flat screen in a classic cab. not even for a short period of time.
those cabs deserve a nice original screen. ;) for me it is a total no-go.
Looking for Dragons Lair 1 or 2, Space Ace, Double Dragon, Robotron and yeah... a Shinobi would be cool, too!

Hi... welcome here

Maybe you've already noticed but most people here don't like lcd monitors is original classic arcade cabs.

What we do like is introductions and pics.

As for the tron. I'd try to get a proper replacement crt monitor.

My apologies, my nick is Reno, got it from my drill seargant in the Army, I live in Florida USA. I bought this Tron unit non working, had a bad rom, replaced chip, working again. Tron came with the Vis Pro. Have been looking for a crt replacement, hard to find. I found some 27 inch crt's and some 13 inch. Everywhere i look is convert to LCD. I just want to be able to play my Tron again. I had back surgery and it went wrong, so for alittle more than a year the Tron has been sitting collecting dust. I was hoping for help here.

Wow, I came here based on this post "https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=630.0" hoping for real grown up help, instead I get a bunch of ignorant childness comments. Screw it, I will make this Tron unit into a Mame box, already have everything I need. I did nothing wrong to any of you, all I did was ask a question, so I am a newbie to using forums and did not understand, small simple mistake, that makes a good reason to blast me? I must have came to a drag queen festival, because this straight man don't fit in......excuse me "ladies".

Don't be upset that fast. But don't expect us to get warm for your intentions screwing up a real nice classic. I am sure that you can find a CRT somewhere in The States to replace yours. Just post a wanted on KLOV if you like.

The topic you reffer to is not about hooking up a LCD in a classic game though..

Putting LCD's in Classic arcade cabinets is like swearing in church IMHO  ;)

and i do like to dress up like a women, not on weekdays though, only in the weekend  8)

What about a 19 inch vga monitor? I just want to play my beloved Tron while I find a crt. I am tired of fixing this crappy vision pro, it is what came with it. I have a flatscreen LCD computer monitor, and a 19 inch crt monitor, both are vga. I found the klov and someone some what local said he has some monitors for sale, has not said a price yet. I am trying to understand board level, up on this Tron. It has been sitting long enough, I still go to therapy, and can barely walk, not much left in life for me. I do not want a flatscreen or computer monitor to be permanent either. I just asked for guidance and advice on this, that is all. I have been googling like crazy on this and found some good and some bad websites on this.

Hi Reno,

In the topic related (APB), I've used a CRT VGA monitor in order to replace a missing 'medium' (24Khz) raster monitor, very hard to find and especially here in Europe. The converter I've used does the trick even if there's an anodyne (but real) upscaling. In case of TFT, this upscaling has chances to very visible, and this will ruin your gaming experience. In addition, the curved bezel won't fit at all the flat screen you plan to use.  :-\
I'm surprised you cannot easily find a 15 Khz monitor in US. You really should go this way for a such iconic cabinet like the Tron one...
