MTC90(?) Flyback Replacement

I've posted this before as part of my thread on the Novomatic TURBO STAR cab I recently got, but thought this would fit the tech section as well - sorry for doubleposting.

The cab came with some 13" variant of Hantarex' MTC-90 (at least thats what I think), and the flyback on the chassis is clearly fried. I understand that rewinding a flyback is quite difficult (I've read about the process on some vintage tv forums the previous days), so I am looking for a way to replace it.

Any hints/suggestions on where to look for a suitable new flyback?

LOL, in Holland AEG used to have a slogan, "AEG laat je niet in de steek" = AEG never lets you down........guess not this time......

I used the magic of Google and found this page from Paul (what a brilliant restoration by the way).

Note that the last three digits on those above differ from what is listed on Paul's site (which is a list from Donberg). Not sure what they indicate and Of its a problem, the one used by Paul differs too (013) and seems to work OK.

Hi Andre,

Great, thanks for pointing this out - i've just ordered a replacement.

While waiting, I'll continue to fix my Data I/O 29b (works, but needs new RAM, and I'll do the 1 Meg upgrade while at it), so I can dump the 2708s from the game board before frying anything

Welcome to the world of MTC-90
Unlike the all-in-one "custom" flybacks that came along later, triplers were somewhat standard. As others have said, order some replacements and see what happens. The -013's fitted perfectly and worked OK for me. That looks like quite a blow out you had there

Thanks again for your hints, Andre and Paul.

I received the tripler last week and replaced the burned one today. I do now see the neck glowing again, so it's a step in the right direction . Since the pcb is still waiting to be fixed, and i was too lazy to hook up another video source, I have no idea if there's any other problems for now, but time will tell

What bugs me is that the shorted flyback did not break a single fuse, neither on the chassis nor in the cab. This doesn't make me feel more confident in terms of electrical safety

There are a bunch of power indicator LED's dotted around the chassis - if you fold the chassis back together they are more visible from the bottom. They are very useful for verifying that all the power supplies are up and you can check them against the manual to see what's not present - the most significant thing it'll tell you is if the low voltage side of the high voltage drive is up and running.

Since I don't see the colour inverter board fitted on your chassis then it suggests your board outputs inverted video like the Zaccaria games do. That thread Level42 shared is 51 pages long so I didn't read it all to find out if that widget supports inverted video or not

I actually have one of those pattern generators and I'll make a post about it soon(ish), haven't tried it yet.
