MTC900 troubleshooting by a noob
« on: November 21, 2012, 11:20:32 AM »
Hi,

I've got a non functional cab with a Hantarex MTC 900 monitor in it. The PSU of the cab seems to be working (at least the part that powers the TL light in it), but when I power up the monitor nothing happens.

Being completely new in the game, I have some questions:

1. When I power up, I don't hear the sound of the monitor starting (like old tvs did), could this mean the monitor's not getting any power at all?
2. Is it save to connect the monitor to my MK2 power supply using the 110V pins on the monitor PCB (it now uses 220V but the connector has 4 pins 2 110V and 2 220V).
3. How many times do you guys unload before removing the PCBs from the monitor?
4. Is the way to measure fuses just check the Ohm value trought them (should be almost 0)?

All tips are welcome off course, but these should get me started for now

Greetz, Patrick

1.) Besides the sound that it makes when the tube is "loaded" there should be a weak orange light in the neck of the tube.
2.) I don't exactly understand what you mean. The MTC900 needs ~115V for operation and 220V for the degaussing. There should be a transformer in the cab that supplies the 115V. Don't connect 220V to the 110V-pins!!! If it was connected this way, there's something blown for sure .
3.) One unload should do the job, do it a 2nd time to make sure there's nothing left.
4.) Yes, but you have to remove them from the PCB.

Now first look for the orange light in the neck and check voltages and fuses :)

And check the neckboard, the connector on the MTC900 is a B#tch  ;)

might want to check this thread :

hmmmm, I put the monitor back in the cab and connected all the wires too power it up and check for the glow

And it makes the starting sound now. It seems to work.

Maybe something was connected in the wrong way, now I need to find a way to hook a working PCB to it. But I'm not sure about the pinout

to be continued.....

The pinout is also in the other thread, but ill post it here again.

I also have the manual in PDF form here, just i need to look it up.

I bet it was the neckboard which made a bad contact  ;)

yeah tx, I also downloaded the manual

strange thing about it I don't see anything I'd describe as a glow. I even checked in the complete dark but nothing there.  Other strange thing is that the ( I think it's called) anode cab (where you put your screwdriver when unloading) is on the side of the monitor. In all pictures I see it's in the middle

By the pinout I mean the pinout of the cab. It's 18 pins where Jamma is 28 pins

Still no pics, I put the cab away till after the weekend.

But one more question came up:

I've got a working Jamma board and a supergun with R-G-B-Sync-GND outputs. It seems logical to connect these with the corresponding inputs on the monitor. But the monitor has 2 Sync inputs. Google learned me that Jamma only uses Composite Sync and my manual learned me the most right connection on the monitor board can be used for Composite Sync

So the easiest way to check if the monitor is working (it makes the startup sound) is hooking up my supergun to it.

Am I missing something here? Or is my thinking correct?

How about hooking up the Jamma board directly to the monitor ?
I don't see what you want the superfund to do, in fact it can only hinder it because a Supergin probably lowers the voltages of the signals (SCART expects lower voltages than arcade monitors.

Your Included drawing already indicates it that one input is H-sync or composite sync, so simply hook up the sync output of the Jamma board to that input.

The thing is I don't have Jamma wiring in this cab, but your options seems more logical indeed.

About the voltage on the supergun: the lines on the PCB go direct from the Jamma connector to a screw unit (where I want to hook up the monitor). The lines to the scart have some small components in them (resistance/ weerstand I think) i gues to lower the voltage.

So while I think your idea is better, I still going to try it from the supergun. But only if it's not harmfull to the monitor or supergun.

No it won't harm, you'll have to turn up the brightness probably though...

my only goal for now is to check the monitor
