Juno First-First Restoration

As many knows I brought a Juno First back from our Archer's roadtrip (Erik's ,Bruno's).
This epic trip is also know as the tight roadtrip because of the limited space I had to put my leg's in Bruno's car after we loaded his Wacko.


To be honest Gyruss spotted it first but after a few belgian beers, I could convince him that this game was complete crap and that the joystick was built with a dengerous toxic material so he let me have it.
Also note that Bruno almost bought it too, in that case that would have been a Bruno First.
Ahem..
Anyway, here's how it was when I bought it.





Everything was there except the coin door (more on that soon), the CPO and the power supply board...

Last year (yes, last year! time flies), after some researches on the net, I found Mikonos' website (http://www.zonaarcade.com/) and asked him if he could print a CPO and a bezel for me.
Provided him some measurements… (the pics I sent him were bigger and more easily readable of course)...





...and the prints arrived in no time in my mailbox…



Some creases due to rolling for transportation but I think I can flatten these.



OK, deep breath, this is my first CPO applying (dry method, hell yeah):


I learned from the masters on this forum so I'm holding the CPO in place with some clamps:


...and start peeling it from the middle:



...then flattening half of it with a rubber tool:


Same process on the other side.
... I wish I had more material on the bottom side and less on the top...
this will be hidden unless you look at the cab from the ground point of view, so it's not a big deal.

It worked perfectly, yayyyy!
See, I learned something from reading all the DLF posts so late at night.  

Note that the material is not arcade perfect, it's not silkscreened and it has a matt lamination for protection instead of the usual textured one but that will do just fine for now 'cause we want to play that baby at Eurocade 2012 don't we?

Now let's populate that poor empty thing.
Mmmh but wait, something is weird with that Coin Control joystick don't you think?


I could twist the ball on top for half a centimeter or something so I did that for a good half an hour back and forth and that centimeter became 1,5 centimeter and so on and finally and I was able to remove the damn thing (and my hands were ruined of course) .
That little ball of glue was the culprit for the "high neck" we saw on the picture above.


Some very strong glue and some pressure and the ball was back at its normal place!




While working I noticed that top ball was a bit cracked (probably the reason why it had been glued in the first place) but it should hold on, just promise to be gentle with it when you'll see it.
OK, that slowed me down a lot for tonight so I'll start populating the CP later, yes things move reaaaaally sloooowly here

About that missing power supply board...
Reading Bruno's Wacko restauration topic, I found out that arcadeshop.com might have something to help me.
Except for the mechanical games counter, all I needed were "usual" voltages such as (+5, -5, +12,...) so, yes, I could have done this thing myself by soldering (what??) and using a "modern switcher".
But that device from Steven was such an elegant and easy solution...plus I felt like this special game deserved a clean installation inside, and believe me, my solders are rarely clean  
So I ordered this silver beauty:


Having no real clue if the game was working or not, I was really anxious to try it...
Especially after the game had been stored in the shed for so long during that cold latest winter.
Suspense, tension, sweat...
I need a refreshment NOW!

No no no Juno First is totally boring, definitly not worth your time at Eurocade, there are plenty of other games to play !!!! (Maybe this way I get a chance on it too ).

As my technical knowledges are limited, I won't be able to set the machine on free play @ Eurocade.
It's set to 1€/game so bring some coins and sorry for the inconvenience.

Not the exact same blue but I didn't send him any sample so that will do.
Otherwise the repro is nice, thanks buddy!



The new guy in the house is making me a bit nervous running like crazy, playing with the bolts and screws and climbing/banging his head on the freshly cleaned glasses...


While I am at it I gave the marquee black rail and screws a fresh coat of black paint.



Soon: populating the CP, reassembling everything and at last PLAYING!
