FWIW guys, John Yates is a very reliable and honest guy. I am one of the lucky ones getting some cabs sent to Australia from him. This was done through a buying co-op organised on our forum www.aussiearcade.com

I am getting 4 cabs, 3 from him and 1 from a KLOV member. John is very easy to deal with. His prices are NOT KLOV prices, but you are getting a lot more than just a cab. He goes over it to ensure there will be no quarantine problems, stores them and loads the container. He really goes the extra mile. He also provides photos of what you are buying.

Our container of games left his warehouse on Monday :)

Also, it is worth paying more if John already has the game you are looking for. Internal USA shipping is quite expensive. Expect to pay between $200 and $350 to get a cab from anywhere else to John.

Thanks for the info and encouragement.

And yes, shipping in the US is a cost factor. But in many cases it will still be a very reasonable price, even shipped to John from somewhere else. Of course we will look for cabs close to Johns place which is north east of the US. So games in California for example are no reasonable option.

I highly doubt that you will pull this one off. Logically you would buy one huge bulk of arcademachines, ship them to Europe, and sell each cab seperated.

Now you are working the other way around, beginning at the ending of the chain, with asking the buyers their favourites. Chance is, if you might pull the import of a container off, maybe 15% of the buyers will end up with their dreamcab, or am I a bit too pessimistic about this one?

nonetheless:

StreetFighter champions edition cabinet
Popeye Nintendo

15%? How did you calculate this? Hmmpf ;)

Well, I disagree. I for myself just bought a couple of cabs from klovers and non klovers in the US already. Now I need to get them over to europe. If I ship the three games of mine alone it will cost me "pretty much". If I ship them in a container with other collectors cabs it will be "pretty cheap" - in this case about USD 100-150 per cab. If we are going to ship in 6+ months from now, I can even wait for more rarities to come up! Christ, this gives me the creeps (thinking of my bank account) ;)

I don't want to make money on this. I just want to save on shipping. For everyone else this is an opprtunity to reach out to cabs they are looking for. I also highly recommend that you guys look out for stuff you are interested in by yourself. And as I said, I can assist in getting stuff too. I even imagine some kind of constantly updated thread here with offers in the US, similar to the ebay and marktplaats threads.

Well, next steps will be contacting John, get prices for stuff we want he has, see if people wanna commit to the deal on Johns terms, organize the whole process and start looking for the rest of the stuff we want. In 3-6 months we should have everything together and wait for the container to ship and arrive. It's that easy  :D :pac: :ghost: ??? :)

Well folks, at some point you will need to translate "if the price is right" into hard numbers. Be prepared!

Background: For the stuff we buy from John it will go along the lines of he is going to say high price, we say low price, he says med high price, we say med low price... well you get the picture. For the other stuff (klov etc) thats not going to work. If I for example look for a Popeye on klov I need to know how much you want to spend/what you consider to be a good price. This is because if its a good price we need to be fast on securing the game. Imagine me saying stuff like "take the Popeye" and a day later "wont take the Popeye sorry" a couple of times. Not exactly nice PR-wise hmm?

Mega LOL! Seriously, I don't think we should develop a new 60ft conatiner standard! Just think of the costs when the two harbours and ship involved need to get updated to be able to handle one of these behemoths!!!!!!!!!111

Seriously seriously, please let me know how many you want to buy overall. Raw estimate is fine :)
