Last wednesday evening I was able to visit Barcade at 388 Union Avenue in Brooklyn. I had read some mixed reports about this bar, but I was positively surprised and I think that it´s a nice place. Remember, it´s not meant to be an arcade, but a themed bar. And the theme of this bar is classic games. I spoke with a guy from Chicago who grew up in that Brooklyn neighbourhood and he told me that themed bars are hot.
I was there at about 8.30 PM and there were already quite some people, male and female, and some of them enjoyed playing the games. The music was great and there really was a good atmosphere. The bar offers a choice of about 30 different American draft bears, and after I picked one (I believe it was called Fishermen´s brew) and changed a fiver for some coins, I went to play a few games. Most games played pretty good, but in the Galaga cab was a 60-in 1. That was a pity.
Anyway, I had some good fun and I left at about 10 PM as I had promissed not to be back at the hotel too late. The area where the Bar is situated doesn´t look like the best part of Brooklyn but fortunately the subway is only about 100 meters away from it. I recommend a visit if you happen to be in the neighbourhood.
Here are some photo´s that I took (made in the dark without flash to catch the atmosphere, so a bit rough):
