Off topic: what kind of vinyl are you talking about? Is it available somewhere? I´m asking becasue I am still looking for some good vinyl for a few games, but without luck so far.

I took mine from thisoldgame too, matt black vinyl, It fits well.

The material that Rich from ThisOldGame sells is Oracal 651. You can buy it on eBay.de

I have been looking into this as well as I probably will need more too in the future, maybe we can do a Eurocade groupbuy ?
Maybe we can get some samples from the German companies ?

I am leaning towards getting a better grade vinyl because 651 is not a cast vinyl, which makes it suspect to shrinking in the future...

I was very happy with the pica vinyl from Happ-Suzo but it is very expensive.

And so the German sources seem ideal....although they dont seem to sell samples, but we could always order the smallest sized piece they offer as it is not that expensive.

The biggest issue is the width. 63 cm. is probably JUST enough for some cabs, but also JUST not enough for others...I think the next width is about double of that but I cant seem to find them on eBay.de

This one is very accurate, but for sale in US : Black Vinyl (Morocco style).
I've used it to restore my entire Atari Space Ace cabinet. I would say Atari used the same for most of their cabinets?
I'll compare next time I'll go to my game room

i have no clue what AtarI used on DL cabs but the old(er) cabs used a pretty structure-less vinyl. In all honesty I think the pica was already more structured then the original. The oracal is totally flat since it is meant to be printed on.

Those pictures on Quarterarcade are very unclear iMHO, but if it's a leather like surface I'd say it's not the right stuff for the older cabs.

Do you have better pics of that stuff Bruno ?

morroco style definitely is NOT the stuff that was used on most atari games (i have a sample here), pica is the closest i could find so far, but as andré said: EXPENSIVE!!!

It seems to me that if you buy 3 foot, you have enough for a front panel. That´s about € 12.

But to me this pica vinyl doesn´t seem to be smooth, judging the picture on the website.

Well the original Atari vinyl isn't completely flat either, at least here is a close up of the original stuff on my SW cockpit:

About the price of the pica: i ordered it directly at Suzo headquarters in Oud-Beijerland, not far from my hometown. They still had a "pick up" counter then which made it a lot easier and cheaper for me to get stuff there. I do remember that Suzo charged me a little OVER the same price in Euros as it is in dollars on the Happ site. Remember this stuff has to be shipped processed etc. but they don't charge for that separatly, I guess it's included in that price. So, 3 feet would around the 20 euro range. However the "pick up" counter has gone at Suzo so now I would also be charged with shipping this locally IF I can still order it. There could well be a minimum order quantity now too because of this. Alternative is to get it from the US but I am positive that Happ has crazy shipping prices there plus a minimum order amount.

So I'm still interested in Bruno's  Morrocvinyl pics to compare. I think the Oracal stuff will be completely flat.

Remember that the parts that look 100% flat on Atari cabs are usually not vinyl but Formica like stuff.
