I have an opinion on this...

Some of the reasons I believe they're having trouble:

They dropped the ball on HDMI for WII, Rumored Wiiu is going to have less tech specs than current game systems.

Few & far between Super Mario "flagship"  games for current home game system.

Pokemon?? Still.....  Seriously?

Refusing to adopt DLC games, and drop dumb game carts.  (I can't wait till handheld game carts are gone, I'd love to be able to have a "game library"  I can sync up and save like iPhone apps)

C'mon Nintendo, You can do better. Oh, and I'm still pissed after all these years that you sold Rare, the makers of your BEST GAMES EVER!  dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb.

i totally agree with sonic, to many mistakes that nintedo made after the success of the wii. it was / is a cool system, but the graphics - c'mon. why not put a better graphic chip in there from the get-go?

and the wii-u ...still can't believe that this is a serious system they are planning on putting out there, looks worthless to me!

as for the games: same old stuff over and over again (mario party, mario kart, pokemon, ...). i was especially disappointed by the "new" zelda: this is exactly the same game as ocarina of time. hell, even the sounds are the same. i started playing it in the winter holidays for one week, but came to realize that it's just a waste of my precious time!
all i need is ... PONG - and a select few others: TOUCH ME, DRAGON'S LAIR, JOUST, ROBOTRON, MR DO, SAN FRANCISCO RUSH THE ROCK!!!

First loss ever, and it has a lot to do with exchange rates and the 3ds pricecut, they lose some money on every system sold but that will end soon. It also seem nintendo is learning from it mistakes in the past and will focus more on online/dlc and better graphics plus the wiiu will earn them money from the start, so those numbers are going to be different next year. Also it's never the case that the sys with the best graphics wins, it's all about software so Nintendo will be allright...
