Lamps were on stock and cost me €4.57 for 10. Most prices were between 70 and 95 cents each, and those werent even Philips :)

Time for some updates ! Last week I got this nice box sent by my uncle & aunt who live in Massachusetts:

The seller of this on eBay wanted to charge me a whopping 58 dollars to ship it directly to me. For this reason I had a very tough communication with him going on to ship it to my uncle & aunt to which he finally agreed.

Now look what my aunt paid for shipping it to me:

It is even (a little bit) LESS than he charged me for shipping it within the US.....

O well....I still saved 50% on the shipping costs and apart from the money, it's the more the idea of not getting screwed over....

In fact, to be totally honest, since my aunt doesn't have PayPal (!) and she said it was so little money, she told me to forget about it.....so I answered I would buy them an extra Belgian beer the next time they are here ;)

Anyway what was in there:

Yessss...

On top the lamps I bought practically around the corner...

Examined the board and found that one transistor had two cracked solderings (I could move the transistor freely...)

So, I decided to re-do ALL (no too many luckily) the solderings on the board. I even removed the lamp-holders so I could clean the board under them....I figured I was soldering now anyway ;)

Good complete cleaning done, lamps installed and ready for 35 more years (at least ;)):

I also removed the monitor. This was the only way to reach the HV board and well.....I guess it needs some work anyway.....

Why do I have a feeling that this game has been in a sea-shore arcade (maybe on a pier ?!):

Some of these pictures are almost like modern art:

Great that the lights are there !, just a little overhaul with some solder and its almost like new !

Better take out some sandpaper and start on the frame  ;)

Bit noisy now ! :p

But I can't wait ! :)

Some more work I did last week, the Power supply board of the monitor:

Gotta clean !!! Only one way: remove the HUGE filter caps and heat-sink:

Strange: rubbery insulators AND thermal grease ? Usually silicon insulators don't require grease.

Ready to be cleaned.....and it looks like it can use a bit of cleaning :)

Caps before:

and after:

Needless to say that the original big caps tested out fine. Sprague was a great brand it seems...the very small caps have been replaced before, maybe by Paul.

And here's something that worries me a bit. The PCB tracks show really dark spots. I have a feeling it might be due to overheating during all the years of use.
However, I don't exactly know what this is: is it the copper being corroded or is it the protective layer turning bad ?? Maybe it would be best to jumper those tracks, but there are quite a few of them. Of course when I measure them they still show almost no resistance (even with the ESR tester) but you can't measure wether the track can still handle a large current with a multi-meter.

Anyway, put back everything after cleaning and replacing the transistor insulators with mica one's.

Oh, and I tested all semi-conductors (as far as I could, two of them are the really big diodes that can't seem to be tested) and they all look good.
And of course all solderings renewed.

caps... yes, me.
thermal compound... yes, me, to get a good thermal seal.

The flaking of the solder mask is probably heat+age and likely nothing to worry about.

Paul.

Oh ah !  ;D

Thought it was the original stuff under the transistors but then again you did mention you replaced one or some...

No worries....this is just compulsory behavior of me ;)

How do you like the Zacc cockpit ? Can't wait until you "unwrap it" I mean the protective film of course :)

It's all wonderful but going to take a while to sort through. I've started on getting the Galaxy pin up because my son has been nagging me constantly about it. It's hard to know where to start...

Dok came down for the unload and we chatted about your LL project ;)

I can imagine that getting all those machines at once make you wonder where to start ! Often I am working on two or three machines at a time plus other stuff....I keep saying to myself I should focus on one, but it often simply works out differently....

Hey very cool !!! I am flattered  ;D  Thank him once more for his great work on the harness next time you see him :)

Hope he found this thread ;)

One more pic before bed:

Mission light bezel installed:

Man....if there ever was a cp that _deserves_ the name CONTROL PANEL....it is Lunar Lander's.....

The wood and bezel fit perfectly ! Now all I have to do is mount the light PCB (but I'm not entirely sure how high it should sit above the wood) and the missing buttons. These are on their way since last week so I expect them to arrive within a day or two :) :) :)

O !!!!! If anyone in the US could help me !! To complete the CP I need two 1/4-20 3/4" long carriage bolts and 4 nuts for these. I searched BR's site but can't find them there. Also, on e-bay I will need to order LOADS of them and shipping costs are insane. These can easily go in a padded/bubble envelope. They don't need to be black I can spray them.

I should be able to help you with those - 1/4 inch diameter and 3/4 inch long? 2 of those and 4 nuts?
