OK....a mini road-trip report for just another arcade part.....
For a long time (and I mean pretty long) I have been looking at marktplaats to find a 19" BW TV. I want them to
BUTCHER THEM ....ahum sorry...I want them to give them a glorious new life in one of my beloved arcade cabinets.
At one point in time I desperately searched German E-bay and actually found one. With the help of SuperUlly (who hopefully is still alive and well.....) I could buy this little gem and it's waiting now for transport to the low-countries.
However, mean-while more BW monitors and cabs were added and all have at least some burn in some way. The best one I've got is the one in my Asterock which only has a small dot in the center. Some people say that a real vector monitor should have that dot but....well. Indeed I can really live with that one. However the other two clearly show burned in attract mode screens and well.....I just don't like that.
Of course buying a brand new fresh NOS NIB tube is still possible (and hopefully will still happen with the help of HI) but the costs are pretty high. I could buy them now for 149 USD but then comes the shipping and on top of that import duties taxes (also over the shipping costs !!).
So...of course I kept my eyes open at Marktplaats. However ALL the TV's I saw were either the really small portable one's OR they were WAY too large. There were also 50's TV (too old). End of last week I finally hit the jack-pot with that nice Philips TV mentioned above. Gave the seller a call, agreed on a nice price for both and picked it up:
My new car has built in navigation.....for all Western Europe.....

The place where I need to go is called "Boven-Leeuwen" (Upper-Lions haha, yes there is also a "lower-Lions")....this means I have to take only one high-way the A15. At some point I have to cross a bridge that used to be a toll bridge in the past. I rarely cross it...so here's a pic:

As you can see we have a great summer this year !

Getting close to the seller's place.
You know that the vast majority of Dutchies live below sea level and we made some dikes to protect us from the water...

In 1995 however, people still had to evacuate this area because the dikes were threatening to break under the pressure of extreme loads of melting water from the Alps.....(and some neglected maintenance)

Luckily it didn't happen.....and this beautiful area was spared...

I arrive at a nice home....the seller is an older man of in his 70s. He's a hobbyist for sure. He shows me has garage where he has a workplace and lots of old AV equipment like the first Philips VCR's (no, not Video2000), radio's, TVs etc. Some nice radio's from 1928 !
We have some nice chat and at one point he asks if I will be using the TV to decorate my room or something......so I stutter a bit and say yeah....yeahhh.....it's really something I've been looking for for some time....(come-on I couldn't say what that I was going to
BUTCHER IT !!!.....couldn't break that man's heart

So, put it on the backseat of my car, tube face down of course, nice blanket under it, safety belt around it and off we go.
On the road back we have even more nice Dutch summer weather:

This isn't just rain, it's what we call a "cloud-break". I have to reduce speed to about 80 to keep things safe.....luckily I'm almost home...
So I quickly unload it and of course first I have to test it (no signal needed):

This is how it looks turned off:

In those days, things were built to be serviced.... there are four very easy "plugs" to pull. If pull only the top two I can work on the PCB without having it loose completely.....ahhhh....those times....

Remove the lower two plugs and there is the entire PCB.

Raster yoke....took only one screw to unscrew to remove it. One thing worries me a bit, those "wings" at the side of the neck look like magnets to "converge" the picture.....let's hope I don't need that anymore.....

OK listen....this is only gonna hurt for a very short while.......there.......already done !

I think I'll get the tubes out and put them on marktplaats.....hey maybe it helps a TV collector !
"ooo hunny.........there's something great on TV tonight ! Come and watch !!!"

Our "victim". She looks a bit brown and dusty, but not too bad at all....

Mmm, I guess that brown stuff is nicotine set-off on the tube. Or maybe just "heat" from the TV itself ? It doesn't smell like smoke at all though (neither does the rest of the TV)

With some gentle and careful scrubbing with a "schuursponsje"....

Yeahhhh, much better......we must be nuts to do these things, no-one will ever see it when it's inside the cab....

The tube number...shame the brand is torn. It looks like this wan't a Philips tube. The data sheet I found was from Telefunken but that logo is not Telefunken's....

I measured the distances between the corner holes and they match the original perfectly
