Nooo, that destroyed LL CP is soo sad to look at, maby Mr. Vector king can use it for a better repro (looks like the colors are intact..)

No offence, but mr vector king is a bit busy for new projects  ;)

I see i dont need to download the scans, since they are already on my server  ;D

Some progress yesterday:

After sanding. This cab is so freaking huge that I had to stand on some steps to reach the top !
Almost everything (incl. the top) is vinyl but the big angled part on top is simply painted and it's el-cheapo fiber board...

First use of the "Verfkoning" paint. EXCELLENT stuff...covers really nice and rolls-out great. It looks rough, but that is how it was and is supposed to be. I painted the part where the vinyl will come too to prevent any bare edges...

And while I was going "Back to black" anyway....there was a lady in need around:

It looked great when I did it, but it looks like the flash-picture reveals some dirt on esp. the back panel. Will have to check after drying and maybe to an extra layer....

Some more pics:

Marquee from the back....needs the usual cleaning:

The fluorescent was disconnected, not sure if there's something wrong. Will give it a try and clean today.
Erik, this gaping hole is waiting for your beautiful marquee !!!  ;D ;D ;D

Original speaker looks good still. Atari went cheap and NAILED it into place which makes it hard to clean. Let's hope it doesn't rattle...I wonder why there was an extra (smaller) hole. Is it supposed to be a bass-port maybe ?

Definitly the largest speaker grill I've seen so far. I already managed to get the dent out of it for 98%.
The marquee retainers are in the worst condition I've ever seen. Been sanding ilke crazy on the top one but the rust is DEEP into the metal....
(Sorry for out of focus picture):

Some more Ms.Pac work in between. Bondo and I. Not sure if we ever become friends. It looked like I filled in the holes completely, but after drying and started to sand I still see "dents" in it so I'll have to Bondo again...

While I was working, this was filling up in the backyard....bought a new one as on the old one I kept fixing holes...They didn't have the same size (3m) so now we got the 3,60m one, which is also 15 cm higher.....6800 liters of water right in front of my  gameroom !!! Let's hope it won't explode ;)

No worries, I've had the same (but smaller) pool for years, nothing happened apart from tiny holes...

So how is YOUR progress Michael ??  ;D

It was raining and cold today but I could work a bit on parts and stuff....

First do the basics: checked the Power Brick. To my surprise the blue plug (220V) was installed, kinda weird since it came from the UK where they used to have 240VAC. Since we are all at 230VAC now I changed it over to the brown wired plug.
Checked all fuses=> OK
Checked all voltages => OK

I removed the ARI board and checked all caps and transistors => OK (Power Transistor looks a bit rusted, but it works....will work on that later)

The fluorescent set-up. Looks like it still has the original starter...tube is from Osram Made in Germany so probably replaced at one point in time. It was very hard to clean it, it's OK. This was BEFORE cleaning:

Installed it and it works fine. => OK

Had a look at the CP because I had to glue one of the LED "Cone" switches.

24 pin plug.....yep that's correct for Lunar Lander harness...

"Carefully" modded to Asteroids.... :roll:

If you saw the CPO, you know the cones were used as cigarette supports....sigh. EOL for them....still have enough on stock luckily....

Tested the LEDs => OK

While removing the CP board I had only one button to go and it slipped, in the process breaking off the "screw top" of this switch. We all know these are relatively valuable switches so I figured it was worth trying to glue it back...:

The G05-801 deflection board. Really a lot different from the -802. The two blue caps have been replaced in one point in time, they measure good, as does the old one on the right.
Did some firsts quick checking of transistors and diodes and they seem to be OK...

SO....I hooked everything back up. I wanted to see if I could get some life out of it....

I measured the voltages coming from the ARI => OK.

Hooked up the AD board again. Not OK. Board LED lights but so does the  spot killer LED on the deflection board, which means no X-Y signal coming from the board.

So....I did a check on all the wires on the edge connector. Not that there was much reason but I thought better safe than sorry. It all looked OK apart from some extra hacked in GND connector (for testing ?) but it should work.

So I decided to put in the LL hacked to Asteroids PCB in. I got a loud buzz tone but nothing else. Not working either...

Now, I could have put in my 100% working Asteroids board but I figured what the heck and moved in the LL PCB I bought from Archer....

And this was the result:
http://youtu.be/3NE1SHl_oVo

OK it looks "squashed" a bit horizontally but we have something running ! The picture is weird though...not sure if this is only the monitor or maybe something on the board. I'll have to put in the working Asteroids board to see what happens....but I'm already pretty happy ;)

Those are my repairs, the new components are one's I fitted. Looks like it doesn't have the vertical collapse it once had, so maybe that was a board issue. Might need the rest of the caps doing, or it has a partly bad transistor in the pre-amp section. Looks like the power amps are OK. Looking not too far off being a runner, though :)
