Centipede problem
« on: November 29, 2010, 08:04:22 PM »
I wanted to play a couple rounds of centipede and I noticed my trackball stopped working properly.
I'm not able to go up or down again.  >:(

The bearings are lubed and both wheels move when i spin the trackball. I switched the little pcb's (that indicate the movement?) around and still wasn't able to move in one direction.  :(

So is there a problem with the pcb's (A035220-01), the Harness or maybe with the wheels?

Would be great to get some advice!  :D

Probably one of the buffer IC's.

I had the same problem.

Let me check the schematics.

By the way, this should be in the technical section (bruno ?)

Anyway, here you go:

(As we say in The Netherlands: Wie schrijft, die blijft !  ;D ;D)

Tell me if you understand this a bit... first thing: check if F10 and F11 are socketed chips.

Thanks, Andre, and indeed wrong section.

You explain the problem quite well, even i can understand it.  ;) Too bad my ic's aren't already on sockets. So this will take a while before I'll get it fixed. Or maybe i should start learning how to solder myself.  :D

Great! But will just replacing the foots fix the problem? Why no new ic's?
Just asking, i found out what an ic is 10 minutes ago.  ;)

Wahahaha IC=Integrated Circuit = Chip

You WILL need new 4584('s, buy 2 to be safe) if that is the problem !!!!

Can't find them at RS online, I think I bought them at my local electronics store back then.......(www.dil.nl, it's not listed on their site but give them a call they still may have them.)

O and no-one uses the term "foot" in the English language, it's socket. But indeed that's what we call them in Dutch "voetje" :D

Also: No 100% guarantee that it _is_ the IC's. It can also be the opto's.

Please note, I think that the full IC number is 14584, not just 4584.

It's a hex Schmitt-trigger.

;D youre totally right, i made a very flat translation  :D (and corrected it)

Great! But will just replacing the foots fix the problem? Why no new ic's?
Just asking, i found out what an ic is 10 minutes ago.  ;)

And thats cool about this hobby, we learn every day something from eachoter  :spaceace:

Ofcourse new IC's, but that doesnt need soldering/desoldering AFTER we removed the old IC from the CB and installed the sockets
thats something you can do after i helped you with the soldering part..

if you have the new IC's wednesday thats great ofcourse, but my means was to remove the old IC and install the socket so the solderpart is ready and you just have to put the IC's in place.

i maybe need to write more clear  :-[ sorry if i was not complete enough in my comments

Searching for 14584 gives some interesting hits on e-bay:

http://shop.ebay.nl/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=14584&_sacat=See-All-Categories

Regular suppliers have 0.....
There maybe compatible IC's though...

You can also always ask on KLOV forum (Want To Buy section), a number of guys sell parts there....

Wait, forget e-bay:

http://nl.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=getProduct&R=5189625

80 cents (ex.VAT) each....no shipping costs.... :D

Sometimes RS's search function is just not working well when you just enter a number.

I found this by entering hex Schmitt and there it was :D

Never take stamped pin versions but turned pin version instead. MUCH better.
You can recognize them by the circular openings for the pins.

They do cost a bit more though, but for such low quantaties that doesn't matter.

Here's a good deal: minimum 5 at 0.78 cent ex. VAT

What do you mean "get them from rs", did you order yourself (can you ?) or are you asking us to order ? I'll be in Hilversum early december for work...
