How do you remove decals?
« on: November 02, 2010, 08:42:03 PM »
I have some cabs with strange decals that I can't remove, especially the glue they used for them.
Do you have any trick to make them disappear?

that looks nasty! i'd try to get as much of it off as possible by hand, then i would start with warm water and some mild "meister proper" :P. if that doesn't work, try a product like decal remover or petroleum ether. you should be able to get most of it off eventually ... of course, you need a lot of patience. don't rush it, rather take your time, because once it's ruined, it IS ruined for good.
all i need is ... PONG - and a select few others: TOUCH ME, DRAGON'S LAIR, JOUST, ROBOTRON, MR DO, SAN FRANCISCO RUSH THE ROCK!!!

sometimes "tapping"it with a new sticker will help also
the glue from the new will catch the old pieces and then you pull them with it

For glue sticky rest, go for alcohol (alcohol to burn? for home use)
it smells a bit but it's simply the best for that.

+1  I use denatured alcohol for this, 70%. Don't drink it.

Maybe put a hair dryer to it to soften the glue?

If you still have the piece of art removed, try tapping the glue on the side with the back of the piece (the "glued" side).

That, and Citristrip are the stuff's I would love to import to Europe as I can see a huge market for it being environmentally safe etc.....

I do think that I saw a similar product last time I was at a hardware store, forgot the name though !
