need diagnosis help (DK jr video)
« on: September 14, 2010, 02:51:20 PM »
I'm in need of a little help diagnosing a video problem with my recently acquired Donkey Kong Jr. I'm having rolling/scrolling lines of video that are mostly blue.  I've cleaned and re-seated 2E & 2F.  I've ordered a cap kit, but it won't be here until tomorrow.  I'm hoping the cap kit will do it, but I'd like to be prepared if it doesn't.  There's a 2:19 video here:

Any and all help appreciated!

Did you try to adjust sync? Is it an original board in an original cab with an original Nintendo type monitor?

Find the V-Hold (vertical) and H-Hold (horizontal) pots on the monitor chassis and try to "catch" the rolling picture. Beware, high voltage!
I don't know that much about those Nintendo monitors, don't some of them have a switch to choose between positive/negative sync? If so, try that one as well.

Pulled the monitor today.
Yanked (carefully) the boards out of it, and capped the Audio Amp as well as the main monitor board.  I also did the neck board pots, and extension board pots.
Hopefully I can get it all back together and start adjusting/tweaking soon... and then playing!!!!  *crosses fingers*

Cap kit done, monitor re-installed.  After some minor adjustment, it looks really good!!  Just one last bit to work out.  Any suggestions on how to fix?

Hmmm....  it doesn't appear as though there is a picture up there ^
Well, if you can see it, great.  If not, it can be seen here:

but basically, the left side of the screen (about a half inch or so) is being pulled straight down by about an inch and a half (4cm?).
It's not horrible, but I'd like to do away with it.

Suggestions?

Thanks!
