Backup / Dump of my Gauntlet Legends HDD
« on: April 10, 2010, 12:16:33 PM »
Hi !

I tried to do a backup of my Gauntlet Legends HDD, because it becomes a little noisy at the last time ..
After dismounting the HDD I connected it on my PC using a USB-Adapter ..
With Windows 7 the Disk will be recognized but no way to do a backup with Norton Ghost and with Drive Image XML. Also "chdman" takes no effect. So I decided to use Linux.
But there's the same effect. No way to do a backup (I tried to use "dd" - DiskDupe ...)

A second way is, that I organize the Game-Software and try to create a "new" HDD ... That's legal I think, because I own the original.

Is the anybody out there who can help with that ?

Thanks

Dietmar

Hi,

Several years ago, I did a successful HDD restore on my midway "nba on nbc".
It has similar hardware as your gauntlet legend.

Before : Faulty endless boot & reboot:

After : restore of hdd form mame chd (on same original hdd, by the way)

All the story :
http://www.gamoover.net/Forums/index.php?topic=8265.msg89061#msg89061

to explain the whole process, I did a small tutorial on Gamoover.net, french arcade board.

http://www.gamoover.net/tuto/restaurer-un-hdd-sous-xp-avec-chdman

Even if it's in french, there are many screenshots that could help you.

At that time, if i remember well, no regular software was able to detect the original midway format/partition.
...no regular software but chdman.
Even if you want to backup you original, I could tell you that it isn't necessary, mame chd will work like a charm
the day you'll need it.

What is your exact problem using chdman ? Any message ? Maybe Win7 is responsible in a way or another.

OK .. I fixed my problem using chdman ...
I restored my Gauntlet Legends using a foreign *.chd file ...
The problem was that the 20 years old hdd from the cab was a little bit "tired" ...
So I take a "new" one .. but this hdd was also damaged ..
Now I got a new hdd, a new chd and everything is running fine !
At last I need to change some buttons e.g the micro-switches (player 3 (red) is the most used one I think)
And last but not least some paint etc and my Gauntlet is like new ...
Thanks for the infos

Regards
