I met jeff minter at a retro event in 2003 - he's weird and smells of sheep...
Of course, we all already know that from the 80's. He was all about sheep, lama's, camels, psychedelic colors (which was why he was great on the Atari), hippies and everything that comes with it...
In fact he's one of the few game developers I actually remember knowing from that period. He was in the magazines then already. Only a weird guy like he would come up with games like he developed. Weird, but brilliant.
David Crane is another name I remember, but I didn't know anything about him until reading some stuff on the internet.
Most of the developers/ programmers were just names (if already know at all) then.
Did you see the story that his fans gave him a Tempest cab (was it for his birthday ?). Pretty cool, he was really surprised.
He should program Tempest II for the original arcade hardware, see what he could lurk out of the hardware !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDrzhc2fwi0I wonder if that's a real vector monitor in there, because the picture is so steady....usually vectors flicker on video....but maybe this is a better camera than I film with...
