Hi,i've come across this machine today, and it looks familiar somehow. Any hints on what this once was? Sorry, I cannot rotate the pic on my phone right now.

Mmmm, familiar machine......
Nope it's not like that. Notice the bolts coming through the front of the panel on the OP's picture....the Japanese Namco Galxian doesn't have that.
Paulswan's suggestion is what it probably was....

It's a Tehkan cabinet.
Namco and Tehkan used same facilities to build their games which is why the cabinets are almost identical.
