Had to do some testing of an Atari 2600......
« on: May 24, 2015, 10:17:29 PM »
Used to play Combat with my brother BITD. Just now, I played it with my son of 13.

His comments:

"O dad....you're a spawn killer"
"Why does this game allow spawn killing ?"
"You've hacked it !"
"You activated cheats !"

But the best of all:
"I need admin so that I can go into God mode and I could ban you"

LOL !!!

I smoked him, even with the bomber hehehehe....the most fun are the Tank games though with invisible tanks and ricochetting bullets :)

This system (and TV and games) are owned by Chris by the way, the marching band's favorite flea-market customer :)

... and I'm pretty excited about that 2600, thanks again for helping me buy it!
I'm looking forward to test it with my kid too.

:)

Do you plan to do a composite video mod ?

Mr.Atari (Sijmen) does them for a fair price.

By the way, the Daewoo has the incorrect remote, it's from a videorecorder I guess...sorry about that...guess you'll have to find a universal remote for that one...

The included games are:

Pac Man
Bowling
Pélé's Soccer
Asteroids
Sorcerer's Apprentice
Tennis (Activision)
Enduro (Activision)
Planet Patrol (Spectravision)
Venture (CBS Electronics)

I must say.....most of these games can't hold my attention for very long anymore.
It's pretty amazing how different that is from the games on the A8 and C64 f.i.

Most fun was Venture IMHO, had never played that on the 2600.
Don't think I ever played Enduro either, pretty OK,,reminds me a lot of The Great American Cross Country Road Race on the A8 platform.

Tennis is surprisingly bad for an Activision game, it's hard as fuck to score a single point....

Planet Patrol is, even though it has rough edges a pretty fun game with quite a bit of variation for the system.

Asteroids is a pretty good conversion although the asteroids move to much on the sides of the screen, still fun for a spin.

Pac Man....what is there to say. It wasn't great, but we loved it BITD. It didn't age well. Ms.Pac and Jr. Are much better on the platform and check out the new homebrew Pac 4K if you want a better Pac.

Bowling is the kind of games the system was designed for initially.....graphically terrible and gameplay.....sigh...

Combat is the same category but IS still fun.

Sorcerer's Apprentice looks very nice and is a "newer" game (1983). It's a kids game AFAIK but I don't really understand the gameplay.

If there is ONE game you need, it is Demon Attack :) Best on the system IMHO.
