Russian bootleg Time Pilot
« on: December 20, 2013, 09:39:08 PM »
I know it is not a unique pcb, but I spotted "Taimu-Paylot" on the edge, I'm almost sure it is a russian text with arabic letters.
The main screen says "Space Pilot", the game is the exact copy of Time Pilot, but the Konami 1982 is not present as on other bootlegs.
Have you ever heard of russian bootleggers?

There is also a sticker on it marked as "Becker Automaten Pirmassens", but I guess it is a different story. :D

It is really funny, how they erased the word "Time" and tried to draw with similar letters. :D

My guess would be that it's a somewhat clumsy romanization of the Japanese Katakana title Time Pilot.  タイムパイロット or TA-I-MU PA-I-RO-TO, which wound up as "Taimu Paylot"

Hmmm, really interesting, it is great to investigate the origin of 30 years old bootlegs. :D
Thank you. ;)

I think good would be an overstatement !  Still learning.  A guy over in Japan told me that it was ビニールモール and 中空モール, or Tモール (abbreviated) but none of those really yielded too much of anything, mostly floor molding.

Doing a quick Google search for "Taimu Paylot" reveals that this bootleg was quite widespread in both Europe and the US, so I'd say it's made in Asia rather than originating from some Comecom country :).

But I do share the fascination with stuff from that part of the world. I still can slap myself over not buying a "Morskoy Boi" machine when I was offered one from Hungary about 15 years ago (see http://morskoy-boy.15kop.ru/ ). But I was young and dumb back then

Cheers,
Martin

Yeah, all chips are common in arcade pcbs, no russian stuff.
It could be an asian bootleg, but don't forget, that the Soviet Union ruled that land in those days. :D

Seriously, that russian EM machine is a piece of art, too bad that you couldn't catch it. :-\

:o Pirmasens is a mere 50 km away from me, it's basically the place where Ralph Bear was born  ;)

Baer, yes, sorry  ;D
Though in German "ae" is a substitute for the Umlaut "ä", and Baer/Bär meaning bear in english  ;)

Dunno.....should we call this a videogame ? There is no logic going on in that thing at all...the ONLY "intelligent" thing happening is the collision detection that reverses the ball....

Personally I think videogames required at least some sort of computing going on, wether without processor or with. Those are videogames, the brown box are just some moving dots on a screen (however cool that was around my year of birth.....)
