Nintendo DK monitor trimming tips?
« on: May 13, 2013, 06:58:59 PM »
Ok. Tested my DK cabs with 300w 220-110v adapter and they both work. At least j.r works 100%. So does DK but the screen is very dark and its very flickery. The colors seems ok too but hard to see. The brightness knob is on max. I would like to have some tips on this issue regarding trimming with the available pots. What does the pots on the neckboard do? The 2 ones on the high voltage trafo? If this doesnt work I will change the pcbs and last re-cap.

Edit: The neckboard pots are only color related? The pots on the hv trafo are brightness and focus...

Well, didn't do the trick anyway. Guess it's cap related?

Thanks.

Ok. Done the capkit. The exact same problem. Dark picture (the brightness knob wont do the trick) and the same vibrating picture. Hard to take a picture of it but imaging putting a electric toothbrush on the screen and the picture follows it.

However, during the cap change, one cap stood out. At least after the soldering. Seemed quite fine before but after, the copper lead loosened and the solder didn't bond as it should. Still fastened but also a little loose. The cap was C467. Does anyone know if this could cause it?

If not. Whats next to try? Nothing wrong with the pcb since I tried it in my other cab.

Thanks in advance.

Or maybe the flyback is gone, but since you got image, it is delivering HV, so i dont think that

Ok, progress. Done some tweaking and measuring. The jiggleing picture was a too high b+ (135v). Only thing left now is the dark image but since the brightness pot VR351 doesn't work that well (not compared to my fully working dk j.r that is) I only have to change it and I "guess" everything will be good enough. Anyone knows where to buy a 10k brightness pot in Europe or anywhere else?
Preferably a seller that takes paypal and to whom I do not have to write emails, cut and paste or phone manually..

I guess I could use any 10k pot but it would look like shit on the little board.
