http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jenever

And I think calling Jenever the same as Schnapps is considered an insult by the serious distillers....but I know nothing about it so I might be wrong...

Jenever has an "old" image....that is.....it's seen as being drunk by granpa's with age 70 and over.

The largest Dutch distiller (Nolet from Schiedam, not far from the European Arcade Capital) smartly switched to producing Wodka (http://www.ketelone.com) and other drinks, which are much more "hip"....read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketel_One. They do still produce Jenever too though.

See that picture of that windmill there ? It's built in 2006. And it's a wind turbine :) ....not everything is what it seems  ;D ;D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Nolet

Quote from there: De Nolet was built by the Nolet Distillery to power their brewing factory which produces the world famous Ketel One vodkas and gins.

Wow interesting, Jenever is still sold by far the most sold high alcoholic drink in The Netherlands, TWICE as much as Whisky !

I guess the English word for it is Gin.

Somewhat popular is ordering a "Kopstoot" (=head-knock) at a bar...... you'll get a beer and a Jenever on the side....you drink Jenever first (in one go !), than the beer.... ;D

Practice the Dutch pronunciation: ye-nay-ver :D
