Gauntlet Power Assembly: 110V -> 220V

ok guys, here's another electro noob question! hope you don't think the following :



my gauntlet was imported from the usa and i got it together with a step-down-converter to be able to run it over here in europe. on the following picture you can see that there is a linear power supply installed on the power assembly (the one on the upper right). would it be possible to replace this linear power supply with a 220V version by simply removing the old one and attaching the wires to the new one? could i then run the machine without the step-down-converter?

i guess not, but who knows. and after all: this is a noob question

Linear ? Are you sure ? To me it looks like a switching one.

sure, switching power supply i meant. the ones i have in my system 1 cabs. you know why i call myself a noob?

The Atari Gauntlet schematics say that you have the switching/linear power supply type. This version does not have the voltage selector connector typical of Atari power blocks. It only runs on 110 V AC and generates isolated 110 V AC for the monitor and 12 V AC for the Audio Regulator III board. The minor modification you can do is install the step down converter inside the cabinet just before the filter (top left in your picture). That connector should come from the main power switch so the step down converter will not be powered when you switch the cabinet off.
