First PCB repair: Super Contra!
« on: May 01, 2010, 05:44:59 PM »
Hi all,

i have a "Super Contra" PCB with issues (a guy i bought some spare monitors from gave me for free  ::)).

The first issue is the volume: the pot is broken so it will need a new one. No prob for this.
The second issue is graphic: i have horizontal lines (red and white in the demo screens, white and white in game) from th left to right of the screen (see pict).

I have never faced a PCB problem till now, so i don't have an idea of the modus operandi to face this sort of problems. Every suggestion would be very appreciated, thanks in advance

I'm really no expert on this but i had this problem whit many of my nes games. Clean the edge connector could help, i use a piece of pencil gum to clean the connectors it works just as good as cleaning alcohol.

Try to reseat all the IC's that have a socket
also if there are flatcables, try to reseat them

I followed your instructions (i used alcool to clean the jamma connector and the terminals of the socketed IC's after removing them), but with no success... lines are still there and nothing has changed.

some new hint?

Consider that the rom check is performed at start and all ROM's are said to be ok... could this help finding out if the problem is in the main board or in the rom board?

thanks
