First of all, have a look at this video

Namco is the god of arcade! Remember, where are in 1990, and did you see what they are able to present at this show!

Ok, this prototype is called : "
Galaxian³ one player version"

In 1990, only the huge
GH-28 (for 28 players!) exists... no GT-6 (Galaxian Theater / 6 players) ... no Starblade!
But regarding the video, it's an evidence that prototype game will become Starblade!

Most of the Starblade elements are already there : most of the ships, the launch sequence, some sounds, some sectors, the flight yoke, the cursor...
It's interesting to see some items that have been removed in the final version of the game, for example this big ship :

The final version of Starblade uses a reflexion screen, which is clearly not the same projection system used in that proto video footage... interesting...
It would be awesome to see the hardware used for this proto presentation

It would be interesting to know why Namco decided the rename the game from Galaxian³ into Starblade... I presume it's because the missions are different
? People who played Galaxian³ in the huge GH-28 wouldn't recognize the plot of that 'one player' version?
Anyway, this PROTO explains why severals ships from Starblade are the same than the ones in Galaxian³... because it was supposed to be under the name 'Galaxian³'

Maybe some of our Japanese friends here have more information about this?

I love history of video game... they are still discoveries to do ... here's a good proof
