Title: Donkey Kong PCB Problem(?)
Post by: gyruss on June 24, 2017, 09:22:20 PM
Hi Guys!

Been a long time since i posted here, was busy with life and other interests but it seems that i'm slowly getting the passion back for this hobby.

One of the main things that triggered it was the totally awesome Sky Skipper project, what a beautiful machine and what a cool story!
Seeing this cab got me motivated to work on my DK again, so today i finally chanced my scratched bezel for a very clean looking one which Erik Sold me (Thnx!)...

But as you can see the machine doesn't work anymore! Its starts with displaying the high score table 2 times, then the construction where the characters move isn't visible anymore and after the game has starts I get this garbage on the screen.

Already took a look at: http://www.brasington.org/arcade/tech/dk/ But can't see the problem.

So is anybody familiar with this issue and can it be fixed by getting new Eproms?

Or can you guys recommend somebody in Europe who fixes PCB's, so i don't have to send it to Mikes Arcade?

Hello,
this doesn't look like a ROM problem. I suspect an address line stuck. But after reading the website you suggested you could start by cleaning the socketed chips.
Here is a nice guide on how to do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkSCh53fO6Y (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkSCh53fO6Y)
If this doesn't do the trick and you have some patience I'm willing to take a look at the PCB, I am from Belgium. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Oh, what a lovely bezel!  ;) :)

I'm sorry that I can't help you a lot, but check the obvious things like cleaning the sockets, checking voltage, check connectors and give it a whank!  ;D This game needs to be fixed of course, you didn't feed DK for quite some time, I guess.
