We are dead after this day, sadly we didnt go to the warehouse, but I might have a hook on another rare old game.
One pic tonight, the rest in the near future
-
Hey Pinge, wake up! We want to see more pics! ;D
-
Very cool find guys, congrats. :)
-
never seen these kind of cabs before :)
-
Sorry boys, Today the lads helped me move cabinets before they took the train home to Gothenburgh and after that I had family business and a football game to take care of... might get time later tonight.
-
I can add two photos of the pieces together
-
Games are (from left to right): Super Bug, Space Attac(k), Canyon Bomber. The Space Attac has likely been a ball-and-paddle game at some point. There is a small sticker taped over the word "balls" on the instructions on the bezel. I am guessing it was a Breakout. It has an original Sega/Gremlin PCB but a bootleg marquee "Space Attac" (without a K at the end).
These cabinets were designed by Cherryföretagen in Sweden. Either they were based on Atari blueprints for the "Atari theatre kiosk" or they predated/inspired the Atari theatre kiosk. Some of the parts seem to be from France, and it could be the case that the cabinets were assembled by Atari France entirely. During this time period, however, Cherry did assemble cabinets in Sweden too. Anyway, there's a small text in french printed on the bezel glass (some stamp from a manufacturer I think), and one of them has an Atari Europe monitor chassis, two of them have some other chassis that I have yet to identify but that is the same as in my french built Gran Trak 20.
In any case, Swedish/European arcade history :)
-
that is FANTASTIC! how many more do you need for the "full circle"? two? looks like the atari kiosk indeed, absolutely amazing find. can't wait for the rest of the story ...
-
For a full circle i would need a total of six, so three more. I am currently following up on a lead for a fourth one. Then theres a rumour of a fifth one but i am trying not to get my hopes up. Will probably have to hunt to get a full circle for the rest of my life.
-
Okey, so here is the story you all have been waiting for.
Thanks to RogerXy for spoiling ;)
We started quite early on Saturday morning, we planned to be on the road 05:30 but I overslept a few minutes, got poked by an eager Kralleman around 05:40, at 06:00 we started out at the closest gas-station.
Then we picked up the trailer and headed north towards our Capital.

Roger took the wheel the first 90km, then Kralleman took over and instantly broke the law by talking in the phone while driving (quite new law here in Sweden)
(http://i1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff382/Pinge80/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020758%20Copy_zpsfccfwdoe.jpg) (http://s1233.photobucket.com/user/Pinge80/media/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020758%20Copy_zpsfccfwdoe.jpg.html)
Roger were happy in the backseat surfing som porn or whatever he does with his tablet all the time.
(http://i1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff382/Pinge80/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020760%20Copy_zpsusdrmjxi.jpg) (http://s1233.photobucket.com/user/Pinge80/media/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020760%20Copy_zpsusdrmjxi.jpg.html)
Early in the morning the roads are empty and there is no problem to drive a bit over the allowed 80km/h
(http://i1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff382/Pinge80/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020761%20Copy_zpsg20y8htm.jpg) (http://s1233.photobucket.com/user/Pinge80/media/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020761%20Copy_zpsg20y8htm.jpg.html)
Roger took one of his powernaps, I dont know hos many pictures I have of this man sleeping... creepy much I suppose
(http://i1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff382/Pinge80/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020762%20Copy_zpsrp4k7yt4.jpg) (http://s1233.photobucket.com/user/Pinge80/media/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020762%20Copy_zpsrp4k7yt4.jpg.html)
Did not take so many pictures on the road, so here we are already at the sellers place, the guy reflecting in Canyon Bomber is not the seller, he is another collector that had som business to settle with Kralleman
(http://i1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff382/Pinge80/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020775%20Copy_zpsileh6g91.jpg) (http://s1233.photobucket.com/user/Pinge80/media/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020775%20Copy_zpsileh6g91.jpg.html)
After som smalltalk we started to load the trailer with the three cabinets, The seller reminds me alot of The Dude from Big Lebowski... which OFC is a good thing
(http://i1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff382/Pinge80/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020779%20Copy_zpsvvkkjnwa.jpg) (http://s1233.photobucket.com/user/Pinge80/media/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020779%20Copy_zpsvvkkjnwa.jpg.html)
This storage was jam-packed with car-parts, pinballs in need of work and a few arcade games
(http://i1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff382/Pinge80/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020782%20Copy_zpssjdqs4vh.jpg) (http://s1233.photobucket.com/user/Pinge80/media/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020782%20Copy_zpssjdqs4vh.jpg.html)

Kralleman helped out with the last game
(http://i1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff382/Pinge80/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020794%20Copy_zpsc1ttuatv.jpg) (http://s1233.photobucket.com/user/Pinge80/media/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020794%20Copy_zpsc1ttuatv.jpg.html)

Superbug had a loose PCB thata kralleman decided to take out and have in the trunk of the car instead
(http://i1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff382/Pinge80/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020802%20Copy_zpsxdgg6e9h.jpg) (http://s1233.photobucket.com/user/Pinge80/media/Arkadspel%20i%20Hjo/Roadtrip%203juni2017%20Cheery%20tartbitar/P1020802%20Copy_zpsxdgg6e9h.jpg.html)

Due to Stockholm Marathon we left the car and trailer in the outskirts of Stockholm and took the subway to meet up with a fellow collector and with the Author of a new book about the Swedish Arcade History.
The book is awesome, maybe you can recognize the games on the front cover? :D

On the second stop I took no pictures at all, but I can share pictures of the two games I picked up, both are built in Denmark, one is a Cherry F1 (the one with marquee) anf one is a JK F3, theese were universal videogame cabinets, but alot of them (like these) have been converted to poker games...

On the homestretch it got quite narrow qith the trailer, but Kralleman drove like a king

Well, thats it for this time, I have to take better photos in the future, we had a great day anyways and were back in my home around 22...
-
Amazing roadtrip, thx for sharing!
And I read "Gott" on the dusty cab ;D
-
When you guys open your arcade i'll be coming over for a visit!
You guys have picked some great cabs in your last raids, well done.
-
fantastic report, thx man. loved the "backseat porn surfing comment" :P
and those "kiosk machines" kick as, especially with those colored fronts pictured in the book. good luck on completing the circle, isn't it great to have new goals in life ;)
-
Kralleman said that the hardest part to find probablly is that exact plant they have on top of the setup in the book....
The top to make it look kind of like a Hourglass would be fairly easy to reproduce I suppose, same measurements as the cabinets but just plain wood... guess he will settle with a full circle without "topper" though...
smarty: beacuse the rules and regulations here in Sweden we will "never" be able to open an arcade... not public one anyways...
-
Great report, thanks a lot for sharing 8)
But those huge plants on top of the circle of cabs
-
Wow!!! Never seen these cabs in the hands of collectors! What a find!
Thanks for sharing this with us :)
:spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:
-
Good job guys
awesome catch :!: :!: :!:
-
Kralleman wants to keep the "Space Attac" as it is, I would rather convert it back to one of the original Atari games :)
6 of these bad boys together would look great
-
Any chance these came from the notorious arcade Alexander Lucas in Stockholm? ;)
Nice catch, I must say. Did you get any leads from the owner on where the remaining three might be?
-
Wow, thats a very nice find!
-
OMG!!!!!
I love you guys <3
Ahahah
-
Do they work, by the way? Would be cool to see some "switched on"-pictures (which are way too rare in forums in general).
-
We did not get any leads from the owner. Actually, the three cabs are from two different places. Canyon Bomber came from one place in Sweden and Space Attac and Super Bug from another. Not sure if they have ever been part of a complete circle of six games. With just three they could be placed against a wall, forming a half circle. I do have a lead on a fourth cab though.
Status according to seller:
Canyon Bomber: Working
Space Attac: Shows garbage
Super Bug: Unknown
I did not want to turn them on without inspecting them more thoroughly first so I have yet to confirm what the seller told us. I brought the super bug pcb home in order to test it on my bench.

worth to mention is that the cabinets are in storage in my hometown and kralleman lives a couple of hours from here, so he cant work on them on a daily basis... he will take pcb:s and chassis home and check/fix... so I suggest he makes a restoration thread for them where we all can follow the way back to life...
I see them almost everyday in the warehouse.. they are something special...

Yup. A little bit frustrating but I don't have the space at home at the moment.
I tested the Super Bug pcb on my desk now at least. Does not boot. The reset pin is stuck low. I tried swapping it but same problem. Some chips have burnt and/or rusty legs. I need to spend some more time with this one obviously.

@Kralleman
Even in the star trek series intro, they said: space, the final frontier ;D
I love reading about your roadtrips!
