Hey scope lovers ! Yes I know you are out there ! ;)
I just ordered a scope....but not the Rigol, not the Owon, but this one:
(http://www.conrad.nl/medias/global/ce/1000_1999/1200/1220/1224/122485_BB_00_FB.EPS_1000.jpg)

Yep. Voltcraft. It's the same as the Hantek/Tekway (and numerous other names it is sold under.)
Why ?
Yes, why? :D I mean, why is this such a useful device for our hobby, please enlighten me what I can do with it regarding game pcb's, monitors (tubes), etc. I'm trying to broaden my electronics knowledge bit by bit (it's so complicated though).

You first bought one, then ask for usefulness? Wait... :shock:
Makes perfectly sense! :wink:
Try to use it for finding voltage sinals wit false low and high leves. This is something that cannot be done with a multimeter...
Here is an example: http://www.wolfgangrobel.de/arcadereps3/bagman.htm#upd

@mikemcbike: ckong didn't buy one, it was Level42 ;)

That's correct. I didn't know my English writing is that bad. :) ;)

Oh, sorry, that post gave me too much information for my simple mind... ;D
At least I gave you a hint what to do with such a beauty...
-
It makes electronic signals visiible.
Are you suggesting that is not great enough ?
:D
To be honest..the scope is probably the tool that requires the most knowledge about electronics of all.
If you don't understand AC waveforms you won't understand what the scope is telling you.

Phew, that's a relieve, saves me money. ;D

....orrrrr learn a bit about AC waveforms ;)
As with ANY instrument....it's only as powerful as the knowledge of the guy using it. F.i. I'm still only at 10% knowing how to use the Fluke 9100A.....but that doesn't stop me from wanting to learn :)

Randy Fromm's stuff is also excellent....is that still online ?
-
most of it is offline

For ME a scope is totally useless because you need to know what SHOULD be on the screen. So you need to know what the electronic parts are supposed to do in a circuit. I totally lack this knowledge ::)

Not on his YouTube channel, but.... ;) ;D
-
you saved it Etienne?

;D 8) ::) :P
