Hi,
Tomorrow (Monday 7th April) I'll be collecting a Zaccaria Dodgem cab. Unfortunately it's hosting a Konami Scramble and by the looks of the picture, it's also got a different marquee.
I know I have more chance of finding rocking horse crap than finding a working Dodgem PCB, but with all you Zaccaria hardcores there's a good chance that perhaps one of you could help me get a marquee, or a scan of one to at least bring the machine closer to the original look.
Probably the same for the Bezel also, looks to be missing completely, I've already seen the CPO on here - awesome work!
Here's some pics so you can see what I'm getting tomorrow. Just a teaser ;)
Cheers

Nice !
If someone finds the art i am interested also ;)
I know Bela has a Dodgem, maybe he can scan the bezel ?
I don't know for the marquee because its bended..
-
I can scan the bezel, my marquee is a bit cracked and impossible to scan, but I can make some hi res pics. ;)
You are right, finding an original pcb is impossible. :-\
A guy on ebay has a fully original cab for sale, but the price is insane, at least there is an original pcb there.

Hi Bela, Thank you very much, I would be very grateful if you could do that for me.
Perhaps this is the next best thing in the absence of the original PCB.

Has anyone seen a Dodgem PCB?
maybe it's possible to bootleg Astro Wars or something like that?
-
No, it is exactly the same as The Invaders with different roms, mame version is not perfect, rom swap also wont work.
-
That marquee does not look complicated, so if you have a good set of pics, i can "create" a marquee.
the size i have since chris made a great sea scare marquee which is the same bended plexi as this :
maybe a local plexi guy can help you out, or perhaps Paul's method to create one yourself :
https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=4265.msg62002#msg62002
maybe he wants to make one for you and ship it ? (i cannot make that descision for him ofcourse dont get me wrong, but you can always ask is my opinion ;) )
When i receive the bezel scan from bela, i will take a look if its an easy vector or not.
Lets get that Dodgem back to life ! :D :spaceace:

Excellent, thanks, appreciate the help.
I made a quick video to give you all a guided tour of the machine. I picked it up today from a yard that is used to store equipment for a travelling fairground in Reading England, the machine, along with many others have been in storage for quite some time. It was about 280 miles round trip today.
I was wondering what would be in the marquee, I had to hold in my laughter when I saw it not to offend the sellers.
It's kind of working, it's hosting Konami Scramble, and it has a Sega monitor, with a screen size no bigger than an IPAD. The buttons are leaf type, and the stick is...sticky.
Grab some popcorn, and enjoy the film.

Lol, nice marquee. ;D
It is really great that you travel so much to save this one, especially without the bezel and marquee. :spaceace: :spaceace: :spaceace:
I will post the scans/pics as soon as I have time this week. ;)
-
You know, maybe the original marquee is still in place and they put the new one over the original...
What is that machine in the background by the way...... ?

Maybe you saw my Pole Position 2, or the Challenger Two generic Jamma.
The Pole Position just has a temporary control board and I'm using it as a horizontal jamma till onecircuit.com make the clone pcb, then it's a quick swap about again. I get a lot of questions on that "What have you done"...don't panic, there is a plan.
Nothing behind the bezel, first thing I checked. sigh.

It's a beauty isn't it. That was the first part of the machine to be saved today, the foil backed inkjet baby pac marquee is in the bin, but it's preserved digitally in youtube.
Good news on the scans, looking forward to it.

No I mean the machine on the right of the left picture in your first post...

oh it's a "terra cresta".
here's the ebay link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221408047493?ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1435.l2649 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221408047493?ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1435.l2649)
Saw it in person today, it was identified as the auction was running by a guy on Jammaplus as Taito Defender. I can confirm by seeing it today it is. and the lucky buyer will be very happy.
Not the actual machine, but here is a pic to compare it to.
The pictures also show one on the side on the floor - Stern Berzerk - trashed, water damaged..made me very upset.

Taito Field Goal > Taito Defender > Terra Cresta

Bravo sir!

Love it !
Very cool cab. :spaceace:
-
what size monitor is typically in a Zaccaria? the one in here is just a bit bigger than an ipad.
-
19 inch Hantarex MTC 900 is very commonly used, but i know paul swan has a list here:

I downloaded the MAME ROM earlier to play the game on the PC. It's enough to drive you crazy, someone please try it and tell me if the controls make any sense. It seems to have a mind of its own.

i also thought the controls did not work, but are you looking at the right or the left car ?
i thought at first i was controlling the left car, but it is the right car that you use ;)

I'm determined to be good at this game, I'm lasting about 10 seconds each life in MAME, scope for improvement.
The cabinet is now super super clean, I had to remove the lower base, it was rotten, missing one leg leveler also which made the cabinet unstable.
From underneath the control panel it looks to me like this cabinet has seen a few joysticks over the years, there's a few screw holes. This made me call into question if the stick was original to the cabinet. It's seen better days. I was wondering if I should put a newly refurbished Suzo Rotterdam 22-2831 stick in. Pics attached.(http://oi58.tinypic.com/16i8nzm.jpg)

Nice find! The monitor is a B&W Hantarex or similar copy of a B&W Hantarex, same one used in The Invaders. The main for Dodgem is the same as The Invaders but with a different sound board. Sometimes you see The Invaders boards with Dodgem sound boards on them :)
Does it still have the curved plexi? Your close up picture cut it off and I was curious what Scramble marque they used. If you show us a picture of the inside we can see what you've got left (I'm guessing very little of the original Dodgem internals).
Paul.
-
Hi Paul,
If you check out the youtube video link a few posts up you can see the marquee in all it's heavenly glory. It has the curved plexi, just need the right marquee. the internals are shown, or rather not shown , it had a Sega monitor, probably from a cocktail, it was really small. I've already traded that away, it was non original and just silly looking in such a generous wide area, but perfect for someone else, nice picture.
It was hosting a Konami Scramble PCB that I am really happy about because I used to play that a lot, good to have the original PCB. Sound was not working, but i'm making up a konami to jamma adaptor to try it out in another cab to test it. The wiring was a real hack job, the safe bet is that the PCB is just fine.
I'm looking for the PCB pinouts for DODGEM, to see that if I rewire this as a JAMMA standard, I'd be safe enough that if I did get lucky and find a PCB I could make an adaptor.

Pics from the marquee and scans from the bezel were uploaded to Etienne's NAS. ;)
There is also a carboard bezel around the monitor with an audienece printed on it, do you have that?

Is that what it is - I've been trying to make that out in the pictures. I don't have it.
Many thanks for taking the time to help me on this one. Much appreciated.

Thanks both, just downloaded the pictures. Great bezel!

Yeah, my favourite artwork is that kid at the cashiers desk. :D

Now the only thing we miss is the cardboard inner bezel, the marquee i can create based on the pics Bela provided
Thanks Bela !! :spaceace: :spaceace:
-
No probs, scanning is easy, you make the hardcore job. ;)
-
Bump :)
Cabinet is coming along. The new version of MAME has the sounds, I'm wondering if I should make the DODGEM a one game MAME considering all the original internals were long long gone.
-
If you're going to the effort of doing a mame setup, you may as well have access to all the games...not just one. They'll be plenty of others you can play with the same control setup as Dodgem.
-
I take your point, however I already have a hyperspin cab running pretty much everything.
This one is just about the Dodgem.
-
Hi Guys,
Bela / Etienne, thanks for your scans/pictures. I'm a complete noob at paint packages, but I persisted in paint.net to create this from the scans. It's got the right dims, and a .pdn and .bmp version of this are now in my private folder on Etienne's NAS for approval and potential moving to public.

Let me have a look and i will move it into the right folder.
