Title: Atari Flashback 4 coming soon !

Looks like this is a profitable business since it's (apparently) already the 4th (did I miss the Flashback 3 ?) Flashback Atari releases.

It's nice, but I would "kill" for a Atari XL/XE "Flashback" machine instead of this....

 ;D

Go for it buddy....I guess 22 000 Ft is the "buy it now" price ? That's a good price with the floppy drive included.

Get it and play those wonderful games that were either "not as good" or not available on the C64:
-Alley Cat
-Miner 2049er
-Bounty Bob Strikes Back
-Dropzone
-Star Raiders
-Donkey Kong
-Donkey Kong Jr.
-Berzerk
-Ms. Pac Man

Oh and be surprised by the fast floppy loading :P

Lol. :D
The problem is, that I've never had an Atari computer, I have no idea how to turn it on. ;D

There's a rocker switch on the backside. It's pretty much like the C64......in that way.

Also a hint: The Atari is a real computer, in that it can boot from an external drive, unlike the C64 where you have to type mysterious commands to load anything.

So, for most floppys with games, you turn on the disk drive, put the floppy in, hold Option on the XL/XE computers (to turn off Basic) while turning it on. The computer boots the OS from it's internal ROM (which is almost instantly) and than starts booting from floppy. Within a couple of seconds you get a nice menu which game to start, just type a letter (A,B,C) to start a game. Full floppy sized games simply load-up completely.

Anyway, you see that it is very comfortable to work with...no need to know any commands if you just want to play games :)

Thanks André, it is really good to know how does it work and you are absolutely right, I was afraid of the unknown commands for operating the system. :D

All these games are better than the C64-version?

I guess I have to get a disk drive for my 800XL :)

Don't forget such great games as Archon and Boulderdash!    Also, does Berzerk run on the Atari XL/XE machines with speech now?   BITD I couldn't get it to run, it needed a real 400/800.

Huh, didn't you ever hear about "The Translator" or similar utils that booted the 400/800 OS so it could run the very few games that didn't work on the XL series ?

This was what the original Atari Translator looked like:

However, I mostly used a different one that didn't have the fancy graphics and thus loaded much faster. You could include it in the boot menu's (as described above) and then make a floppy with all games that needed it. Much later people did hardware hacks to simply switch between OSes.

I had only a handful of games that needed it, maybe 4 or 5.

I've played Berzerk loads of times that way and yes it is the only home conversion that includes the speech.

Indeed Archon, how could I forget ! And Boulderdash, but I'm not really sure if those are any better on the XL than the C64, never played those on the C64.
