Title: Printing the Simpsons CPO
Post by: gyruss on June 27, 2012, 10:47:44 AM
Got a little artwork question:

Ronald Reagan and i both need new CPO's for our simpsons cabs. Gameongrafix has european CPO's in stock but the instruction sticker is a little bit off:

http://www.gameongrafix.com/products/simpsons-uk-version-cpo

Luckily, Krousibat showed us that the correct cpo is already vectorized: http://vectorlib.free.fr/TheSimpsons/

Can somebody please tell us where and on what kind of material we should print this? Thanks!!  ;D ;D

I read in the description:
"We will print at the exact size of the original Control panel.   If you would like the control panel some other size, please use the box below to input the size."

reading that i guess they print to order, which might give the option to have this instructions printed by them also

I mean its just taking out the instructions of theyre file and paste the correct one from vectorlib inside.

I would contact them and ask the possibilities.

Okay, sounds like a good idea but i'm a bit afraid they won't print the right version because of the copyright/trademark stuff.

What about your printing guys? Is this something they can do?

depending on what they have as material, i know they have vinyl, but thats not sufficient for cpo iyam

How is the material called that the US guys use for CPO's ?
I mean, if we can "score" that, it could be an option to try it out.

you can also call the printers and ask them.
Asking is free remember  ;)

I can PM you the number if you like
They also have a branch office in Utrecht..

gyruss, donĀ“t buy this control panel from this shop, his version is blur and it is not restored.

Look a this:

The best material and easy to found is printing in vinyl with a rough lamination.

Mikonos, i assume you are talking about the vectorlib file being blurry?

Not, vectorlib is not a shop. Zorg (he is the administrator of vectorlib) have in is hosting a better version. Etienne told  you first.  :)

I was curious about the colors, and i downloaded some Simpsons Vectors, compared the colors, and there are some minor differences between the file from zorg and the others that i found,

I dont know who made the version from Zorg, and what values are the correct ones, but i must say i like more the values from the other files that i found.

Its just a bit more rich of color.

I know that its dificult to jugde from monitor, but it never hurts to boost the colors a bit IYAM.

The right one is boosted? Looks indeed a little bit better.

I think you should keep in mind that this machine was made in 1990, and the colors of the Simpsons themselves, were a lot different than in the years that followed.

their haircuts even changed a little bit, and for instance bart is holding his skateboard, which in the years that followed completely dissapeared. Also note the difference in thickness in outline. I dont know where you got the Marge picture on the right from, but the old Simpsons used to be in not so bright colors

you can easily see that in the two different Simpsons pinballs. The one from 1990/1 looks so pale compared to the Simpsons Pinball Party from years later. It still rocks though imo

look at the yellow colors, and Barts hair

Yes, the right has brighter values
I think RR is right about the outlines though, but i was not talking about that, just the colors, lets compare it but then with the same outlines:

If you want to you can always boost the colors a bit in Illustrator: edit/edit colors/saturate.
You could play with it and do a few testprints (on the final material and at the same printing company of course) and choose your favorite saturation.
Remember that what you see on the screen is not what you'll get on your print, it's just a simulation of what you'll get.

Thanks to our president Ronald Reagan, I'm now the proud owner of a working Simpsons cab too (pics tomorrow).
...and guess what I badly need a CPO too  ;D
So far we still haven't found a european print guy that can print on the right 3M material, haven't we?

Don't think so, and the available files aren't correct either. I started measuring my bare cp for the right position of the figures, but put in hold because I was busy with other stuff.  ::)

Maybe we should join forces, the president also needs one.

The graphic file is not a big problem, I can take care of it but I could never find a way to print on the right material.
...and of course it will be inkjet so not as sharp as silkscreening but still better looking than what we actually have.

And what about printing in the US and sharing shipping costs?

Depending on the price I'd be up for it.
Would one of you guys check on that while I work on the graphic file?

Here are some pics...
The price was nice and The Simpsons is the very last game I remember playing a lot with my arcade buddies.
So I had to have it because it represents the end of the cycle for me  ;) (my very first arcade game memory being killer shark, I'm still badly after that particular one btw).
The theme is so cool (The Simpsons = the 90's), it's easy, fun and we could play with 4 players at the same time and cooperate (for instance Bart on Homer's shoulders).
The cab is not as nice as the US version imho but I'm happy to have it and don't really mind if it's a tad beaten.
We've already played it a lot since it entered the house, even girls enjoy it so it can stay in my hallway for the moment, what more could I ask?  ;D

nice. The knob on the stairs looks like a big Joystick  ;D

I see you got exactly the same one, with the names MARGE HOMER spelled out on the buttons. Remember quarreling about it with ol' Gyruss if that shouldnt be images. Guess who was right ;)
My CPO is a bit bad, but not as bad as yours. But if you will order a new one, I am in for it, to pay my share of costs.

About the US-version, I only know that one from images, never seen one in Holland or on Holiday. Only played this white one in the 90's. On the island of Terschelling, North of the Netherlands, there is still an arcade where you can play this cab, that one has a lot of cigarette buds.
