Title: Taito Western Gun 1975 pick up for Alpha1
Post by: level42 on June 24, 2012, 07:05:48 PM
As you guys may have seen, this very classy Taito cab was put on Marktplaats again ( https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=1647.msg51743#msg51743 ) and Alpha1 wanted it, and Gyruss offered to store it for a little while but had no means to transport it so I volunteered to do my duty in the ongoing mission of rescuing arcade history !

Yesterday was a great day but I had other "duties" so we agreed to pick it up Sunday morning. Regretfully the summer here has been more like a constant autumn so it looked like this when I went out to unload my work stuff from my car:

Once everything was out, let's hit the road...

Almost ther but then......hi-way closed for works.....luckily I had to take this exit anyway ;)

Oll, I hope that you can do a combine pick-up/shipping soon because I still have your secret base cab waiting for you in my storage  ::)

OK, figured it out....PITA to do compared to drag & drop that I could do with MobileMe but I have no choice....

When I arrive at the seller I already see the Western Gun in the garage, RUNNING !!!

Coin door. GREAT condition still. Regretfully a hacked in credit button, but it does work and I tried the game. Looks like a lot of fun but it's always a 2 player game of course !
(http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5464/7433311742_edf176ffe0_c.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/level_42/7433311742/)

After some very nice chatting and having a short look at what the seller collected (all kinds of old machines and other stuff, very nice older guy by the way) it was time to load 'r up. I had checked the dimensions on the flyer and had some doubt if it would fit in my car. The only cab I've had trouble with was SI, but even that one JUST fitted through the back opening. This time......we were out of luck !
(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7114/7433312738_0e6c1c203c_c.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/level_42/7433312738/)
Untitled (http://www.flickr.com/photos/level_42/7433312738/) by Level_42 (http://www.flickr.com/people/level_42/), on Flickr

We tried it on the back and sideways, but since the bottom part is almost square it didn't matter anything. So there was only one option left:
(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7135/7433315200_e38e51f6e2_c.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/level_42/7433315200/)
Untitled (http://www.flickr.com/photos/level_42/7433315200/) by Level_42 (http://www.flickr.com/people/level_42/), on Flickr
Put a strap around the cab (good thing the Skoda has eyes to tie these to) Tied the backdoor as close as possible and drove off, luckily it wasn't far from Gyruss' place.
(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7135/7433315200_e38e51f6e2_c.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/level_42/7433315200/)
Untitled (http://www.flickr.com/photos/level_42/7433315200/) by Level_42 (http://www.flickr.com/people/level_42/), on Flickr

The whole issue was the couple of centimeters that the back-seat forms on the floor. Had it been completely flat, the cab would have gone in without a problem. Also, that entry should be completely flat too on the next model Skoda !!!

On the road:
(http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5335/7433316730_548f4a0962_c.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/level_42/7433316730/)
Untitled (http://www.flickr.com/photos/level_42/7433316730/) by Level_42 (http://www.flickr.com/people/level_42/), on Flickr

It safely arrived at Gyruss. He was in a real hurry as all systems had crashed at his work and as you know he works in telly business so he had to go back ASAP. So no pics. The bottom did get wet very little we could prevent that. We dried it as good as possible and pray that the Japanese pine-like wood will be forgiving....

When i drove off I noticed this banner very close to Gyruss' home:
(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7118/7433317702_fedb379262_c.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/level_42/7433317702/)

Hilversum's museum having some sort of exhibition about art in games.....mmmm.
More info here:

Well that was it !

So very unexpectedly this was already the first cab haul for the new Skoda after barely a week or two :P

The only thing We didn't "see" working was the sound by the way....maybe a pot somewhere ?

The monitor/TV is a bit stripy. I guess it will need some new caps....

...and Pieter, buy a 150 euro camera.... ;D

You're welcome, i played it a few games with some friends and it's surprisingly fun game, the draw and shoot principle is really there..

So when are you going to pick it up (or get it shipped)? I can hold on to it until Eurocade but no longer, it's blocking 2 games in my already overcrowded game room..

Hey,

Andre - pm coming to you shortly!

To both of you - Andre mentioned it would be good to have it for people to play at Eurocade - let me know if this is what you both want and I am happy for that. I can then pick it up myself or get it shipped after. I want to come over but I don't know if I can yet as Shelley just got made redundant so we are currently living on my single wage (and panicking a little too).

Let me know.
