I am desperately looking for a game from my youth.
I played a vertical shooter in Sweden in maybe 1986, and later in Italy in 1989 (Union Lido, Cavallino). The game must be from approximately 1980-83, and is situated in space. The graphics are blocky. All sprites have just 1 colour, and I guess the game has an 8 colour palette. The background is black, but now and then you get a "hyperspace mode", and the screen background flashes red.
I believe that you control a white ship, and the enemies are yellow, pink etc. I think that the enemy sprite is changed into a score number (e.g. 800 points) when you kill it. I believe that yellow gave the most points (1000?).
I haven't seen the game since 1989, so it isn't easy to remember everything. But the screen definitely flashes red when you get "hyperspace" or "warp speed".
I have checked Arcadeflyers, KLOV and MAME screenshots, but can't find the game. I have even asked in other forums, but have still not found it. The closest I have come is that the game may be Enigma, but I have only been able to find a screenshot from Enigma 2. Can anyone help me?
Here is a mockup of what it looked like. Don't laugh! :)

Hummm... maybe Astro Fighter (http://klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=6947) from Gremlin/Sega 1980 ?
Here's few snapshots (from klov) :

...not a lot of colors...

...sometime a black background... and maybe an hyperspace sequence ?...

Thanks for answering! I was afraid I had posted to the wrong forum, as everyone are posting wonderful tales of treasure hunts and cab restorations. :)
Your suggestion is very good, as the colour palette is very similar, but I am sad to say that it isn't the right game. Believe it or not, the graphics are too good! ;D
I think I will add an eBay watch for Enigma and buy the board if I can find it. It's my only hope so far. At least I will know if it's the right one or not.
The strange thing is, the game must have been quite common in the eighties, as I played it on two occasions in two different countries. And I really didn't visit the arcades that much..
I wish I had the foresight to note the game name back then.
The reason why I want it so badly? It was the first game on which I set a high score! :D

atarikid: Thank you, but I think the graphics are too detailed.. I remember the enemies as very blocky. And they don't really come in waves or patterns, they are just scattered one and one while the screen scrolls (so it looks like you're moving upwards).
I know I will find this game one day, and then I'll have a big celebration. ;D

Did you ever find this game? :D
