Title: Donkey Kong coin door measurements
Post by: eurotronic on January 09, 2012, 01:41:04 PM
Hi friends,
im looking for now more than a year for a donkey kong coin door at a decent price. But, every seller i found where from the US and the shipping cost to EU is..well, you know. :'(
Anyway, i have at home every little pieces needed for my repro, but the holly-expensive coin door is holding me in the starting block.

So i was thinking with the number of huge collector in there, maybe some of you can find the time to give me some measurments of that part so i can make a repro door in wood, and when i will found a nice original coin door, i will replace it.

So, Can one of you give me a hand on this? He will be eternally praised.
Thx,
David ;)

Well, not easy to help you on that  :-\ That would require for us to have disassembled a coin door on a table, having all the appropriate measurement tools to be effective and a kind of 'Autocad coin door schema' to quote all the values...a certain amount of work/time .. for an uncertain result : I don't believe a repro coin door in wood will be a solution. It won't look right at all, and it will really time consuming to build one. I'm sure Nintendo coin door pop up on ebay sometime, and I'm sure a seller will agree to send it to you if you explain that project. All collectors in Europe are forced to do the same, when we work on US cabinets that require part... from US.

Hi

I've had my Original Coin door drawn in Solid Edge and have sent it to 3 sheet metal fabricators for pricing.

There is quite a lot of welding and dressing needed that increases the cost.  For instance, the frame side is 4 pieces welded together, ie 2 sides, a top and a bottom.

I have two prices back so far and expect the 3rd on Monday/Tuesday.

I'll update this thread with the costs.

I'm in the uk, where are you ?

Cheers
Cacker

It says under his avatar where he is located: Liege.be (Belgium).

If it will be a good repro I am quite certain there is a relatively large "market" for it. The originals are pretty flimsy compared to the US and European coin doors and thus many got dented. Are you intending to only sell complete doors with frames or the doors only too ? Depending on price I am interested.

And I'm in The Netherlands. And also welcome to this forum Cacker.

Hi

Thanks, I see it now.

It will be a good repro as I want 2 for me and several other people want them.

Only issue is getting numbers for the first order as this will keep the unit price down, so as soon as I've got the 3rd price, I'll ask people who are interested.

Other issue is the postage as they are quite heavy - about £13 in the uk I think.

I will need to sell complete doors - so the frame side with the door.

Will update as soon as I have a price.

If anyone is interested in a coin door, please PM me, or reply to this thread.

Thanks
Frank

Can you give us an idea about how accurate your repro coin door will be? and are you planning to sell the coin doors black powder coated, or just bare metal?

It may be a good idea to post your idea in a seperate thread here, even better on more European forums because you will want to have as many made as possible to reduce the price.

Not telling you how to do this, but this is now hidden a bit in another thread....most people only scan topics..

What I usually see work well on similar projects is work like this:

- start an interest list in the "general" section of a forum and ask people if they are interested (without commitment yet) and make a list. that will give you a rough idea a out how many will be sold. With that number you can inquire for a price because usually the higher the number, the cheaper they will be. Of course you need to "calculate in" a certain number of people showing interest but not ordering in the end....
- once you have settled a price post a "for sale" thread in the buy/sell section with details on how to order and ask a DEFINITE order/payment from those people who showed interest.

Again, not telling you how to do this, just suggesting this to get it cheaper for everyone. of course I don't know you are willing to do all that work and the shipping etc.....

If this helps lowering the shipping costs, I'll be in Oxford around August 1st and I can bring the doors to Eurocade in September.

Yes, sounds a good idea.

I'm still waiting for 3rd supplier to quote me - one of their guys been off sick, so should be next couple of days.

I'll then open a new thread as suggested above to gauge requirement.

I'll be at the Manchester show so could take them their if people order them.

Cheers

Hi

Sorry for the delay on this - I broke my ankle and took some time out.

Anyways, best price I have is £45 each - based on a order of 20.   This is unpainted.

Like to hear what people think.

I think the price is ok, but the addition of postage of about £13, make them quite expensive as one-offs.

One thing I've been asked is taking them to some of the UK events, which I can do as long as I get enough orders, as this will save postage.

Ok, let me know your thoughts guys.

Thanks
Frank

So it would be about 75 shipped.
seem a bit high for a repro, considering that you still have to add one or two coin mech on it..

You ask for 20 doors but did you ask on forums how much people would be interested?
I bet it would be much more, at least 50.

It would be approx. £58 shipped in UK.   I haven't looked at overseas pricing yet.

Ok, can everyone please let me know if they would be interested in one as if the initial order is higher than 20 I will ask for a new price.

The more the merrier.

Cheers
Frank

Someone said about posting a thread asking for interest elsewhere on here.  Which is the best section ?

Maybe Business area https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?board=10.0 (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?board=10.0)
or Arcade Lifestyle https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?board=2.0 (https://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?board=2.0)

Just post interest topics on KLOV, BYOAC, Jamma+, Arcadezentrum (German forum), Gameroom.be etc.

The more interest, the cheaper it will be.

For this forum: post it on the Business Area subforum.

And I suppose at least 5 people in Holland would be interested, so one shipping of multiple doors to one of them will be much cheaper.

I´m interested in one coindoor.  :)

could you post a photo of your Solid Edge drawing?. Has the coindoor one or two coin slots?
