I have never discharged a monitor before and feel a bit jumpy about doing it.
The thing is I need to replace one, so the question is, can I exchange one monitor for another including their respective boards, without discharging anything (and without running the risk of getting shocked) ? Do you always discharge screens before manipulating them, or are you just careful not to touch what shouldn't be touched?
-
As I know do somebody here the discharge with the fingers ..
BUT DON'T DO THAT ..
I never discharge the tubes .. I'm very very carefully ...
So please don't touch the High-Voltage ..
Or you will look like this :

I don't have enough hair left to look like that. ;)
Ok, so you don't discharge either. What should I not (or never ever ever never ever) touch appart from the anode?
-
My rules:
- only discharge when you HAVE to separate the chassis from the tube
-do not ever touch anode cup unless it has been discharged
- do not touch the solder side of the chassis as there may be caps that still have a charge.

;D ;D ;D
But if i need to do it again now i just use a screwdriver.

You can do that it' not difficult.
And you don't need to stick a screwdriver to a broomstick to be isolated
Check out this vid: [email]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_4qc9Jyt5A (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_4qc9Jyt5A)
You can do it with an electrician screwdriver and wire instead of the fancy tool he used.

here is mine. ;D
Just clamp the croco clip to the chassis, take the screwdriver in one hand, there other hand in your back, and touch the metal thingy behind the cup.
You may or may not here a little "clac". Touch it a second time to be sure, and that's it.
:spaceace:

Thanks guys for your input. I might try the broomstick method. :) I simply love that photo.
The self made isolated screwdriver looks good to. That will be for the second try.
Anyhow I don't have the croco pinces and other stuff, so I'll pop out tomorrow and get some and give it a try (I'm also running out of paint, so will get some at the same time).

i'm always touching it again after the anode cap has been removed and right before i'm going to re-attach the anode cap again!

Works fine, is funny and perfect for a good start in the day ..

from time to time i still get that famous "click" even after working on the chassis for quite a while!

You can solve this problem if you do THIS :

Sorry for the late response, but youtube and some very useful sites like tube8 are restricted in our office. ;D
