I know i have to be carefull about this subject, but 5 days ago i took a chance and ordered some pieces from these guys..... And guess what!:
Now, i dont know about the SW Yokes, but it seems like Dave is i serious business again!
I wont hesitate buying there again! Thanks!!
EuroCade - this baby is going to be well oiled and playing like a dream!
-
I heard the business is sold or the parts were sold to someone else.
Dave is a scammer and owes people thousands of dollars. If I knew he still ran that business I wouldn't give him 1 cent or promote someone that has stolen money from others in his hobby.
My 2 cents.

I have read the stories on KLOV, and you´re right about the things you say.
I don´t know if he runs the business anymore or if it´s sold (lets hope for the last thing) either way, must admit that it was fast expedition, and where else should i (we) buy these things, if we can´t find them NOS, or lightly used...??
-
here we go again...
The business might be "sold", but Dave is still involved. I am sure he is still making money when you buy from him.
If people keep buying from RAM Controls, there will be no reason for Dave to pay back what is owed.
Dave, Adam, Dan, whatever is still RAM Controls, is still a crook, should still be avoided.
I would not give him a dime!

Well, Dave is not in control of Ram Controls anymore!
Got that confirmed by the new owner yesterday, Dan Johnston, he took over the business on May 15 2011 and he is going to solve what can be solved.
-
good to know, michael. however, i bet there are still people out there refusing to order stuff now because it was made by dave ...
do we know whether the new owner is just selling off the items in stock or if he is going to work in replacement parts himself? do you have a contact address? perhaps i can "exchange" the money i lost on the MC control panel for some other stuff i need.
-
Dan has bought the name and the stuff on the Ram Controns shelfs, and he is going to make new parts aswell;
"i an working on several new parts and controllers and expect to make several product announcments soo "

I would seriously question who this Dan guy is. What's his full name? Have you seen history of this name in the arcade scene in the last few years? Can you be sure he's a real person?
Secondly anyone that buys a business will want to see the business records for profibility etc. I seriously doubt Dave has anything like that, especially with all the scam $$. No one in their right mind would buy the business for anything other than the stock, and certainly no one would keep that name as it has too many bad feelings.
If he has not been in the arcade scene before, I would also seriously doubt he would make any parts - I mean why would he? He doesn't know what he's doing right? If the new parts turn out to be the same parts Dave was saying will become available this just makes me even more suspicious that it's still Dave running it.
Dave could be selling the Ark of the Convenant - I wouldn't care as he's a bad guy.
-
His name is Dan Johnston..
-
There's loads of speculation about the true identity of the new owner on KLOV forum.
I'm going to be very honest and open here. If I would need parts that only RAM controls can deliver, I will order them.
-

the same goes for me!

To be honest, that´s a shame.
I also did order parts from him in the past. It was before it was known, at least by me, that he made such a terrible mess of it and that he scammed a lot of people. The only thing that I knew, which was told by me, is that Dave was a bit slow with delivery. But now I would never order parts from him again, not only because he stole from me, but just because he is crook and a thief, and I don´t do business with known crooks and thiefs.
I wonder, where is the moral in still doing business with such a guy, even if he might be the only one who makes these parts, financed with STOLEN MONEY!!
Everything for the hobby! That can´t be true, can it?
Unfortunately I´m certain that a lot of people who don´t speak up here like you do, would still order parts from RAM controls also. I´m afraid that´s the world that we are living in.
Just my two cents.
-
dave is not running the business anymore! the parts are there, why not get them?
and honestly, i would NEVER EVER send someone 2,500 bucks in advance for something that might be created at some point in the future ... but that's just my two cents. i've lost money as well by prepaying for the MC control panels, but we're talking about 80 bucks here, so not much harm done!
-
I think that's a shame that you would support a company that has taken thousands of dollars from other good collectors.
To say it's their fault for sending the money is outrageous.
-
He's not saying it's their fault, he's just saying _he_ would never send 2500 bucks upfront to someone. And I agree. I wouldn't even do it to any of the guys/companies I trust 100%.
People blindly sent such sums of money to someone we ALL knew had at least a doubtful track record.
I feel for the guys who got burnt, but in the end it is THEIR risk they are taking...I'm sorry, but I'm not their mummy or daddy to tell them what to do or not...
If _I_ am willing to take a (reasonable) risk at ordering stuff I will have to live with it. Sorry but I never got burnt personally by dave.
It DOES hurt me that he did others because I had good contacts with him and he burnt some of the guys who I referred him to.
However...IF there really is a new guy running the show, why would I let a machine be totally unplayable or totally looking like shit IF RAM controls is the only source to get it done...
Indeed, I would NOT upfront the money. I would tell him to send the part and then I pay. If he wouldn't accept that, then so be it.
I'm definitely not alone, other members from this forum have ordered from RAM controls and received their stuff OK and in time.
-
The unfortunate thing is this is the cycle that keeps on repeating itself with RAM. A few people order and then say ' WOAH! I got my parts from RAM! Everything must be fixed! and then 12 months later all the new guys that have come into collecting get burned by him.
I believe he does this deliberately, as he knows this cycle will always reap him thousands of dollars.
I need parts that maybe only he can sell, but I won't buy them, I cannot put money into the pocket of a crook - whether he actually has delivered them to me or not.
Anyone that's enough moaning from me. It's a free world, you can all do what you want :spaceace:
-
....... I cannot put money into the pocket of a crook - whether he actually has delivered them to me or not.
+1
This is exactly the point, it doesn´t matter if you are hurt by Dave (if not, then you were lucky), Others are deliberately scammed by him, which makes him a crook. Don´t do business with criminals.
-
I just don't see the point of condemning people who do order parts from RAM controls.
I think everyone should be able to decide for themselves. You guys are trying to give us a guilty feeling and I just don't agree with that. Give everybody the room to decide for themselves.
-
Don´t do business with criminals.
agreed! but we are not doing business with criminals anymore, we're doing business with someone who took over a criminal's business and tries to sell off the stuff that's left - and to me that's something completely different!
-
Hello everyone there!
I didnt know about the RAM problems, but I needed a Missile command trackball repair kit and they were the only one to sell this..
I ordered one 'deluxe set' 8 days ago and just received it today.
Everything is ok for me so..
Just my experience..
-
I guess (hope) it's the way it's run now... Good service!!!

You should better buy to arcadeshop (http://www.arcadeshop.com/parts.htm) : Steven is a kind guy and he has lots of great stuff.
Or maybe Bob Roberts.

I'm not sure they got what he needed....
Afaik only RAM is the only one reproducing this...

Guys,
If you are FOOLISH enough to order from Scam Controls then it is your decision. I have been collecting for over 13 years and this is the same cycle he pulls. This is the 5th time now, where people like yourselves comment "I recieved my product!!!"
All that does is lure other collectors in, more people start ordering, but this time rather than say a $25 order they go to $100, then $250 and higher, and then once the big money comes into their pockets, they perform the scam again.
This is classic conman behaviour. I can't believe none of you can see it.
I'm REALLY dissapointed.
Would you have gone to dinner with Hitler just because he didn't put you in a concentration camp? No, I didn't think you would.
So enough of the 'he hasn't scammed me', he's a scammer! a conman! I even see some people that have lost money to him are still prepared to order!
A fool and his money is soon parted....

And, no, I wouldn't order from him either.

I am really disappointed too.
That you compare a person who is responsible for the death of 60 million people, not to mention all the other misery he brought upon the world, to a (suspected !) conman. (He's not convicted yet).
There's no scale in that Olly. Even worse, by making this comparison, you are comparing us to the Nazi collaborators.
Luckely none of us have gone through WW2. My parents did. They had to flee to the country side, walk for days to get some food. My home-town Rotterdam was wiped-out. My father-in-law lost a brother.
And I think they probably were all still quite lucky, many have suffered insanely more...
Yes that disappoints me. Let's keep things in perspective here please.
I was very pleased to meet you Oll, and you're a far too nice person for something like this...and you know us too....
But you just can't expect everyone to think about things exactly the way you do...we're free people. I don't always agree with everything that is said or done by people on this forum, and I'm positive sometimes it's the other way around too. That still means we are all friends in this hobby. Opinions differ, let's move on.
-
Damn, guys! This is getting out of hand.
Olly, I have to agree 100% with André here, you shouldn't have compared Dave with Hitler. There isn't any comparion between them (there never can be) and I can totally understand André's feelings about the implicit statement being made by you. Although WW2 was many years ago, a lot of people in a lot of countries still have bad memories about it, be it personal, family history related or whatever. Never underestimate that.
In the meantime, let's respect each other. I mean, by now we all know what each other's opinion and feelings about doing business with Dave or his so-called successor is, some oppose to it, others not. And because I don't think that there will be knew insights, it might be best that this thread is locked. There is already enough discussion goin on at BYOAC and KLOV.
-
Hi,
I'm sorry if I upset anyone, my comparison was wrong and out of order, I apologise.
It's just this guy caused me so much stress and pain when he ripped me off 5 years ago I don't want anyone to get fooled.
I've cooled off now, I hope everyone has a good week.
Peace.

Hi All,
Wanted to share my recent experience with an outstanding RAM Controls order since Nov 2010 and worth of $250. A guy named Dan Johnston offered and sent me other stuff from the RAM Controls stock per my discretion, as most of the previously ordered items won't be ready for the near future. For me the topic is closed - though the 'solution' may not apply for everyone.
All is from my very own perspective except where noted. Feel free to have your own view, but I won't comment necessarily.
Like many of us I had seen orders delaying from RAM Controls in the past plus, since November 2011, there was an outstanding order for items that were advertised on KLOV at that but largely not ready for shipment:
Nov 2010 - Original Order
2 Battlezone Joystick Centering Bellows @ $30 - $60
1 Missile Command Trackball @ $85 - $85
1 Missile Command Control Panel @ $75 - $75
3 NON-LED buttons @ $10 - $30
Total $250
Until March 2011 I had several, though sparse email contacts with Dave Adams, with him explaining the delays and mostly stating: "we ship soon..."
In June 2011 I sent an "ultimate request for refund" to Dave Adams' email, otherwise I would share my experience via my website - the email came back, "address not known". I then looked at the RAM CONTROLS Site and used their 'Sales' Contact email. Within one day a guy named Dan Johnston responded and explained "RAM Control's Stock and Mail order business has been sold to him for the 25k that Dave owed him". Funding, to process re-funds, has not been part of the deal. Also re-funding currently is NOT possible (no timeline), as cash flow is too slow. Dan explained also that the Missile Command CP and MC Trackball are on the priority list but with no timeline and BZ Bellows are a couple of months out.
He offered to change my order to anything that is currently in stock per the website with 20% bonus and free shipment. For me that was an option, so I changed to other products and informed him.
It took another week until he was able to ship internationally due to cash availability, then I got a tracking number and shipment arrived one week after, well packaged and as described. Per experience within the last month, Dan is very quick in responding and he is staying to his commitments.
For anyone having an order outstanding, it might be worthwhile to contact Dan and at least start negotiating/raising their flag, even if it may not be a very quick turnaround in cash - if you
have the option to change your order to other parts, chances are to get this resolved finally.
So if I have to decide to leave a machine in a broken state or buy via Paypal from their site, I would do the latter, though not for several 100's of Dollars.
To be very clear, I am not linked to RAM Controls nor do they pay me for this :)
Best Regards
Andreas

unfortunately, i've written two emails to dan johnston, but never received a reply from him. which address did you use, andreas?
-
try sales@ramcontrols.com
Dan is great for filling orders for parts. Problem is that lots of $$$ is still owed that I fear will never be repaid.
-
try sales@ramcontrols.com
Yes, this is the email from their page : http://www.ram-controls.com/contact.html
-
alright, sent him another email - number three! let's see if he at least responds ...
-
OK has any of you guys had any progress ?
-
OK has any of you guys had any progress ?
he has finally answered my email (told me he was on holidays), i will send him my replacement order soon!
-
You see the latest on KLOV?
Dan Johnston is a pretend name!! He is really Jim Bloomquist joint founder of RAM!!!
He lied already!
Hope you get the parts or money you are owed.
-
Also it turns out Dave Adams was a fake name also. His real name was Adam Judd.
Adam Judd is a famous name back in the 1990's early 2000's as he was called KrazyKatt on eBay and conned a lot of people for arcade parts that never arrived.
-
Got a link to the klov topic?

You might want to start on page 1

Will make a great film one day!!
-
thanks!
-
OK, anyone have their stuff yet ? Ully, Erik ?
-
No, and reading all the stuff at Klov I don't want to bother. It will be a waste of time to try to get something back, it took already too much time.
-
OK so you did not send an e-mail at all ?
Just so I know....I do think than that's all I could have done for you about it (I mean, it's only 1 last e-mail, who long does that take, 2 minutes ?)
I got another complaint from a guy in Belgium on the gameroom.be forum....
