Title: Sometime returns in a bad way...
Post by: flip971 on April 06, 2011, 05:29:45 PM
Hi to all ;)

Like most of the forum users, I presume, we have used or seen a Commodore 64.
Now, the United States, a group of businessmen, had the "brilliant" idea to buy back the Commodore and Amiga brand and produce a new generation of computer:
C64, Vic-Pro and Vic-slim, all in the case of C64 , reproducing the entire outer shell of the computer, including the original keyboard.
They are also thinking of doing the same thing with the Amiga line ...
The news might be interesting but, IMO, is bad: they use a modern hardware with Linux as the operating system and then there's the 'C64 emulator to use (the same as what they are thinking of doing for Amiga ...).
Then we go do not develop a new computer or a new operating system, but make it a simple act of marketing just to make easy money, as with the old Commodore machines, they have nothing in common.
Besides, are very susceptible to criticism.
I leave a couple of links to see the "new " products and "affordable" prices ...
To you the comment.

P.S. they have maded a spot cross-promotion with Disney to the launch of the new C64 and Disney's Tron Legacy DVD and Blu-ray release http://www.commodoreusa.net/CUSA_Intro.aspx (http://www.commodoreusa.net/CUSA_Intro.aspx).

I'm actually glad that this is not happening for A8 machines....

Fake, fake, fake, fake.

Everything is wrong about these. Just MHO of course.

Sounds like they are doing again the "C64 web it"  (http://www.amigahistory.co.uk/c64web.html) :'(

that is not a C64, its an embarrassment to the C64 !

at least the used the breadbox design.

(http://www.commodoreusa.net/j/C64KeysSmallBorder2b.png)  Hmm , not too bad..

(http://www.commodoreusa.net/j/C64DVDBrighterSmallBorderb.png)  WTF ? a CD drive in a C64 ???

(http://www.commodoreusa.net/j/C64DataSlotsBrighterSmallBorderb.png) Worse, a multi cardreader in a C64  :-\

(http://www.commodoreusa.net/j/C64BackplateBrighterSmallBorderb.png) This does it all, i want to see a RGB plug, composite, or antenna connector here, not a DVI, VGA or HDMI  :o

In fact, that C64 joystick is MORE like a real C64 than those machines ! At least that has hardware emulation.

This stuff COULD be done in a good way. Like Jrok's multi-williams board. That is the only way, hardware 100% compatible, but build with modern parts.

It should be a "breeze" to put a C64/A8 machine on 1 chip these days. But it's simply commercially not interesting I guess.

I have already know that project. ;)

Wow, on their forum, there are a lot of people want the "new" C64 and maded an order.
Have sold a computer before to produce it, is not strange?
Maybe want to make money to begin production of PCs and then, perhaps, send them?
It is curious that are making all the noise around their new operating system and have not yet published or released anything...
As the shell of the "new" C64, which so far has seen only in virtual form...

A little question: how they buy the C= brand?
If I remember correctly, it was buyed from Tulip in 1997.
