Guys, I got a request for a repro set of the famous "Level 42 SW cockpit canopy perspex repro's" (TM).
As you guys may remember, I had two sets professionally recreated at my local Perspex dealer (www.stoutperspex.nl).
One is on my machine, and the other is on another's (a very satisfied customer ;) )...
The repro's are 100% identical to the original with one major improvement (IMHO): it's color-less.
I mean it's a "gray" color, in contrast to the orignal which is bronze colored. I never liked that color and I think it totally mis-matches the SW cockpit...
Anyway, everything else will be 100% copied. The holes are professionally drilled, the "folds" are professionally bent and of course the sizes are correct.
Now, I know the market is small (very small) but IF anyone wants a set, I can just as easy order two, three or more sets as I do one....
Of course, these things are big and oddly shaped so a nightmare to ship. DO think about that. I also don't want to store them for a VERY long time.....
I would expect a prize of around 120 Euro. The last time it was a bit cheaper, but prices of raw materials (oil !) has increased a lot...
Anyway, if anyone wants a set, please let me know ASAP !

if you don't understand, the request for the most famous Level 42 SW cockpit canopy perspex repro's, it's me.
Thanks a lot.

Although I like the original canopy as well, and mine is still in pretty good condition, it never hurts to have a spare one. So count me in. :)

Was it bronze originally, or is it ones of that zillion plastic products from the early eighties that was using bromine flame retardants? Meaning it was colourless at first, but became bronze after a few years, like a C64?
-
AFAIK that doesn't happen to perspex/plexi ?
I'm pretty sure it was already bronze when it was new. F.I. even the bezel on my MC cabaret was bronze, which totally screws the colors IMHO. I replaced that with a grey tinted one as well.
HOWEVER, if you look at the flyer (flyers are my preferred source when restoring) it looks black/grey to me !!
It could be something simple as being the bronze cheaper that they chose for it...

Andre,
What color was the top part? On my cockpit, the bent part (the back) is gray, but the top was orangey (bronze?). It was aweful... I had to replace it with gray.

Way back in the mid 80's the one we had in our arcade was allready bronze-like. So íf they did discolor, the process went (really) fast.

The original parts (both) were bronze. So you already had a black/gray repro in there...

Just want to know if the canopies are indeed going to be reproduced. Would be great. :)
-
But of course :)
Plan is to go to Stout next tuesday.
-
Of course planning changed. A lot.
BUT the good news part 1 is:
I've dropped them off at Stout Perspex last thursday afternoon!
The part 2 good news is the price. I don't understand why (you'd expect prices to go up all the time and esp. since plexi is made from oil......
However, the guy calculted a price of ABOUT 77 Euro EXCL. VAT (19%) per set. So....that will be €91,63 !!!!
That's a lot less then Bruno and I paid for them last time around !!!   ;D ;D ;D ;D
Anyway, I'll post here when they're done ! (Damn where to store them, they eat up space ! ;)
-
that is good news André. :) Thanks for organizing this.
-
Indeed good news less expected ;D
Thanks !

Got a call today that they are ready !
PM sent to both of you gentlemen...
