That's hardly possible, the Japanese nuclear power plants are totally different (to say it nicely) than that old Russian stuff.
-
you're totally right, though, there´s roomers floating around that a meltdown has started, and at the same time the Japanese government says that the inner shell is intact.... though, they are still unable to cool the core due to the damage of the cooling lines......
-
....yeah....whatever the truth is, you don't want to be there right now...
-
totally agree! :-\
-
Just read that reactor is 40 years old, 1971....
....Chernobyl reactor was built from 1977 till 1983 (4 reactors built)....
Let's hope the Japanese did a better job.
-
ouch! - not good, but as you say, i too hope they did a better job!
also, the morale is better in japan, ie. they honor their work on another level...
-
This is getting worse day after day. I really have a thought for all those people and especially our Japanese members.
Please give us a sign :-\

Chernobyl had no containment structure, it was an extremely flawed design. The Japanese one has containment. It doesn't have a core catcher if the whole thing decides to melt down into the earth though, then again neither do most of the ones around here either (only EPR type stations will have them I think and they're all under construction)
I'm told there is still a nuclear power plant in operation in Russia today who's original design was the inspiration for Chernobyl. There are also 3 reactors in the Ukraine with no containment structure. Politicians currently playing the voter game by talking of inspections and shutdowns in our own countries should worry about their sister reactors in the east first.

it´s terrible, it seems like a meltdown is under way.... :-[
And i´m sorry to say, but i think the Japanese government is withholding a lot of information regarding the actually facts on the Fukushima power plant...!!!!

hahaha. I'm still alive.
-
Thats great to hear !
-
That's great to hear......not envying you guys there though......
Pouring water with helicopters looks like a final desperate try....they seem to completely miss target because of the wind (rising heat I bet) blowing away most of the water....
-
hahaha. I'm still alive.
Great news indeed! Where are you located if i may ask?

Great news indeed! Where are you located if i may ask?
in Tokyo.(It's away from Fukushima No.1 Nuclear Power Plant at 220km)
so, I have not received the damage related to my life.
-
Great news :)
Hope all the problems will end soon in Japan :-\ This is just too much disasters at the same time...

My wife and I made plans to go to Japan this year, end of May, for 3 weeks. Fortuntaley two weeks ago, before the earthquake and the tsunami, we decided to postpone the ticket purchase for a few weeks because we wanted to wait for a better deal!!!
It now seems that we indeed can get a better deal, :o :?  but we decided to wait until next week before we make the final decision to go or not. I mean, I'm always trying to enlight myself, but this kind of enlightment could be unhealthy.

Damn I just saw the firemen what will have to work there (they were getting a "pep talk" like soldiers that were going to fight and maybe not return........
....the fear in their eyes was clear enough... :'(
-
