Title: Group buy for a Sega MD Flash cart and a SNES flash cart
Post by: ckong on January 10, 2011, 03:01:27 PM
I'm thinking of buying a Sega Everdrive MD flash cart and a SNES Everdrive flasg cart. These carts are pretty new on the market, have good reviews and are not too expensive compared to other available flash carts.

However, because I thought that the commercial web shop prices ($ 78 + shipping vor the MD cart and $ 87 + shipping for the SNES cart) are still a bit high, I contacted the maker of the carts and we agreed to a wholesale buy. If I purchase 10 or more carts, the prices are:

$ 66 for the Sega Everdrive MD (including shipping to your house!!)
$ 72 for the SNES Super Everdrive (including shipping to your house!!)
$ 90 for the SNES Super Everdrive + USB (including shipping to your house!!)
$ 66 for the Sega Master Everdrive (including shipping to your house!!)
$ 82 for the Sega Master Everdrive + USB (including shipping to your house!!)

I added a small markup of a few $$ per cart for my 'fees'.

You can find more info about the features of the carts, and pictures, here:

Now, why would you want to have a Megadrive or SNES flash cart?

1. Besides a fanatic arcade gamer, you also love to play Megadrive or SNES games.
2. You don't want to ruin your original minty game carts.
3. The original cart of your favourite game is broken.
4. You want to try out a game before you buy it.
5. You think that it is too much hassle to exchange carts often.

Do you want to participate? If so, I will ask you to Paypal me the amount in US$ through Paypal gift (or add 4% charges).

Dont get me wrong but i would never buy a nintendo homebrew item that isnt made by Bunnyboy. http://www.retrousb.com/index.php?cPath=24 (http://www.retrousb.com/index.php?cPath=24) but i have to agree the price of the product you have is really low!

No offense but the one (SNES) bunnyboy offers is triple (!) the price....

I know the carts from Bunnyboy, but as Level42 says: much too expensive, not worth the extra features (my opinion).

non taken. i personal have a old boot loader for my snes so i can play diskettes and make backup of my own games if i would ever want to. I wasnt trying to say the product ckong is wanting to buy is bad in any way i was just giving my opinion.  Also i think you will not notch any difference between the 2 if you compare them to each other ore the original. and the price of the everdrive is realy low. I just wanted to gif my 2 cents and gif a shamles plugin for bunnyboy beaus he dos awesome things for the nes community.

Sorry Ckong for going of topic.

I'm actualy programming for it in asm 68k , and i ported rick dangerous 1 & 2 . so u can try my demos available at www.pascalorama.com to test your flash cart :)

Yes, I do believe so. But you can read about the SMS function here: http://krikzz.com/everdrive-md.html

so we need to pay already ? or we wait you until you succeeded to get 10 orders ? As it seems i'm the only one going for the megadrive flashcard, do you need to have at least 10 orders of each kind (snes and md) ? or it's just the global amount ?

thanks :p

Fine ;) I don't know if it's the right forum section to do so, but anyway...

I'm a 37 old French guy, software engineer for a living, and I've always been interested in electronics and retro-computing.
Since a few years, I've done various electronics and FPGA-related projects, as you can see on my website : http://torlus.com/ (http://torlus.com/)
My latest project is the hardware emulation of the Sega Genesis in a FPGA, see here : http://torlus.com/index.php?2010/07/14/236-fpgagen-a-sega-genesis-megadrive-clone-in-a-fpga (http://torlus.com/index.php?2010/07/14/236-fpgagen-a-sega-genesis-megadrive-clone-in-a-fpga).

Now I want to get a flashcard, as I'd like to enhance/fix what I've already done, and it seems the right tool to test stuff on the real hardware ;)
I'm also a friend of kroustibat, that's him that informed me about this deal.

Well....I'm going to stick out my neck here.

The only reason why I bought a Super Nintendo (a long time ago, but it was when the system was already pretty aged) from a young boy at a "Queen's day fair" was to play Super Mario World.

I haven't played many other games on that system, but to me, this seems to be THE game for that system.

In fact, it's still my favorite Super Mario game to date. On any system. It even comes in 2nd place to DK arcade in my "favorite games" list.....

But I probably missed out on a zillion great games....

Great offer and anyone slightly interested should jump aboard IMHO. However, I have to point my wallet in other directions at the moment...
Title: Re: Interest check for a Sega MD Flash cart and a SNES flash cart

:) The SNES is indeed a great system, with tons of great games, be it platform games, SHMUP games or other genres. And especially some Japanese Super Famicon games are among the best games ever made. Unfortunately they can be very pricy, + $600 (for a boxed game, meaning the cartridge, the manual and the box!!).

SNES / Super Famicon is probably the best 16bit gaming system around, although Sega fans will not agree.  ;D

OK guys, good news. I now have 13 orders in total for the MD and SNES carts, so the deal is on.  :D

I will send the members involved a PM in a couple of days with the request to send me the money asap and to give me address details.

By the way, I was in contact with the maker of the cards today, and he is also willing to offer the Sega Master Everdrive cart for the discount price of  $66 (same as MD Everdrive). For details about this cart, see: http://krikzz.com/mseverdrive.html

If anyone is interested in the mastercart (as well) then please come forward within a few days.  :)

Does it matter if you have a NTSC SNES?

According to the specs you can use the cart on PAL and on NTSC systems: http://krikzz.com/severdrive.html

Edit: and with the super everdrive you can play pal games on a NTSC system and vice versa.

Do you know which revision of the Super Everdrive board we will get ? The latest is (seems to be) v1.3, the one on which we can solder DSP and all other needed parts.

Thanks.

Yep, that's the one we get. But I suppose that you know that there is another option to get DSP support, it is called the T-connector and it is confirmed that it works with the Super everdrive. You can get it for  $10 with free shipping at Tototek (what's in a name): http://www.tototek.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=40

Here are a few youtube movies of it in action together with the Super everdrive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJfzQetP7HA&feature=player_embedded# & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTqoedEptbE&feature=related

Oliver

The ones mentioned in the first post are without it, but I also have a group price for one which includes it, see my edited first post.
But actually I don't think that you don't need a USB connection, everything can be done with the SD card combined with a card reader. But it is of course upt to you.  :)

Added to the list.  :)

@Torlus and @ Arcadegek: because you both mentioned that you want a SNES USB version, I added these to the list. But please (re)think whether you both really want the SNES USB version, it's a lot more expensive than the carts without USB and they don't offer real extra benefits. You don't need the USB connection to put games on the flash card en it isn't needed to upgrade the Everdrive firmware, which can also be done from the flash card.

It's not my money, but I just thought I mention it.  ;)

Allright, it's over, I will not accept new entries to the group buy any longer.

The final number is 59 carts in total, from 4 forums. I would call that a great succcess.  ;D

And a lot of you already made their payment, which is great also. Just a few hours ago I did send the first payment to KRIKzz, for 21 carts of all kinds, in order of the paments made by you (from the 4 forums) to me. KRIKzz responded that he will start sending the carts out somewhere next week, with tracking number of course.

Because of the large quantity, it could be some time before all carts are on its way, so please have a little patience.

(Both consoles are PAL consoles, with a 50/60 Hz mod, I can recommend that mod to everyone). The game is Burning Force (MD). Now I just have to make a nice case for the carts. I'm happy.  :D

Could you take a look at yours and verify if you have some weird stuff like this ? Thanks.

Looks like a decent "tracefix" to me, I have seen worse "factory modifications"..

But yeah, i agree, you don't expect this from "new" equipment..

on the other hand, normally equipment is cased instead of a bare PCB, and then you don't see that  ::)

So Eric, when are you going to do a group buy for the PC engine you just bought ? ;)

Right after the N64 everdrive cart group buy.  :)

Btw, it was nice seeing you again. I had a lot of fun today, met some friends, had nice chats. Simon seems like a really nice guy, I had a long talk with him before you arrived. I'm anxious to see how the AV mod wil work out.

"Funny", when I go in "Device Info", my PAL MDII is recognized as an US console.

Yeah, the 2600 AV mod looked REALLY nice. Sure, it's not RGB, but that's simply impossible from those machines. But the difference between using an Antenna signal and this will be a pure bliss. It was fun, he showed it to me with the game "Cosmic Arc" from Imagic. Really liked that one back in the day. So simple but fun !

Oh, and his name is Sijmen, not Simon ;)

Just disassembled it, it's one of the numerous MD I have bought in yard sales in villages around mine. And this one has a track cut making it displaying games in 60 Hz, that's why it was recognized as an US console.

Mine has arrived in London. Thankyou :) Kinda wish I got both now!

Are there ones coming for other consoles? I really like owning games and the boxes and all but this is a nice
'all in one' solution.

Yep, KRIKzz also has a SMS Everdrive for sale and at the moment he is developing a N64 everdrive: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31476&page=2

And there could also be a PCE everdrive in the near future.

Have fun with the cart. Please remember to first do a full FAT16 format of the SD card in your PC and then again a format through the Everdrive tools menu. After that you are good to go and put game roms on the SD card (max. 200 games in a folder. I made 26 alphabetic folders where my roms are in).

Cool, thanks for the advice! I like the folders idea, although is it possible to put the entire rom list in the root directory, rather than folders?

you could try, but I believe the max number of files in a (root)folder is 200.

For the ones who are still waiting for their carts, KRIKzz did let know that he tries to send out all remaining cards this week. He must be overwhelmed by the number of cards in this group buy.  :D

Has he shipped my one yet? I guess not as I haven't seen my name in the tracking number post.

Let me know when he does.

I will ask him and let you guys know.

Edit: asked him and already got a reply.

KRIKzz has send out most carts and will send the remaing few carts in the next days. And then he will also publish a new list with tracking numbers.

So there is a good chance that your cart is on its way to you.  :)
