I received some real classic Parker Brothers cartridges(Qbert, Frogger, Tutankham, Super Cobra, Star Wars, Reactor etc.) for my Atari 2600 from Canada.
When I turn the machine on with these tapes there is the pic and the sound and the game is playable, but the whole screen is vibrating and I can't see too much from the game.
I also have a second Reactor cartridge (bought in Hungary), it works fine.
Is it a Pal-NTSC problem or any other ideas?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions! ;)

yes it's a pal-ntsc problem

Is there any way to modify a Pal Atrai 2600 to play NTSC games as well?

You could try an S-Video mod with your console, maybe this helps? If not, you have at least a better picture qualitiy with the games that work ;)
Besides, I have a truckload of Atari 2600 carts for sale, if anyone is interested... ;D ;)

Nonono, NOT MAME, there is NO emulation going on ! See it as the ultimate multi-card. You can easily store ALL available games for the 2600 incl. homebrew and all other stuff on a single 1 GB SD card and select them from the menu.
The games run 100% on the original hardware so you cannot compare this to MAME !
I understand the "value" of the original carts. I like the Parker carts. They're pretty good games generally and the carts themselves are a nice shape. You can make a nice display ;)
I doubt very much that it is easy to make a mod to a PAL 2600 to play NTSC games. Remember that the 2600 created the image by drawing each line individually. The timings of drawing the lines is very much tied into the game program.

Ahh yes after trying to sell a phone and getting loads of dodgy scam merchants I blocked all non-UK. Hmmm should I unblock it....? Would cost quite a bit to ship it overseas.
You can see it all in intricate detail on this photobucket album:

BTW, I have quite some NTSC carts in my Atari collection and never had any problems running them on PAL consoles and different TVs, except that the colors are wrong. No rolling or shaking picture, nothing. And just recently we played some Kaboom! at my buddies place with an NTSC cart, PAL Atari, PAL TV. Wrong colors but game played perfectly.
???

You can try VCS games on-line (java emulator) on atarimania:

Link : Play it! 8)

Yeah, I think I remember that too....I guess it depends on your TV, the REALLY old one's can have problems.
However, those games are little fun in B/W....if they are already any fun at all ;)

When I hear of Atari VCS I'm SO happy :D !
Well... NTSC carts could be played on PAL consoles !
The matter is the color palette, which is coded SO DIFFERENT between both systems...
So it happens you could see a purple sky instead of blue (!!!) or a cyan skin instead of pink (:D ) !
Otherwise NTSCs plays very well, included the 60hz refresh rate (where you got no PAL 60 carts ;) !)
You can see some pics HERE

... and other pics of the VideoGamesHistory I had in Monza, Italy on the 2nd & 3rd of October with people of the staff of "our" BEST italian site & forum ;), where you could see Halo2600 PAL in its first exclusive in Italy and Europe, too !!! Than mybe this TV is not compatible with NTSC carts(older pic with a Videopac):
It has not just different colors, but all of the NTSC cartridges vibrating like hell, others work excellent. :(
-
I think the TV is a little bit too old to handle the 60 Hz of the NTSC signal.
Maybe there's a control for the vertical hold reachable from the backside ?
-
Hey Béla, did you ever get this fixed ?
I have two NTSC "2600" machines now.... ;D ;D ;D
-
Totally forgot about this, I will check. ;)
Thanks anyway. :D
