Title: Monitors.
Post by: Muerto on April 09, 2010, 09:02:45 PM
The guy (Allan from arcadeshoppen.dk) that i bought my monitors from can get all the ones you guys want!

He can get the following sizes:

19" - 20" - 21" - 25" and 29" in flat, and semi-flat (!!!)

If we team up like we did when we bought the cabs from Paul´s50 we can them even cheaper  :) :) :)

so, what do you guys say?

Michael courteously asked if I was OK if he posted this, and I said sure ! My goal is to help us to (the best available) CRT monitors. So far, only a couple of responses from my contacts. Chasing them again this weekend.

@jcp: There are lots of Commodore 1084 or the Philips CM8833 (equal) monitors around, these are ideal if you need that size (might be 13" or 14" but they're great for a cabaret or cocktail).
Another one you can use is the Atari SC1224.

The commodore 17xx and Atari SM monitors are not suitable.

Whatever the plan, I'm in for new monitors.

I got a mail from Allan (Arcadeshoppen.dk) following a simple question, and he seems to be a very kins & helpful person.

An "group order" with him seems to be a good option, but of course let's wait the reaction of all the members before ordering in a place or an other  ;)

André : thanks for the information, but I'm looking for an 14" Hantarex MTC 900E in order to put my Buggy Boy in his original setup. For the moment a Samsung monitor with polo pcb is in the place, at the right view of the Buggy Boy triple screen.

Wait a minute, semi-flat ? Weren't the one's you got completely flat ?

I think I could live with semi-flat !
Title: Re: Monitors.

Yes, the ones i got was flat....
Title: Re: Monitors.
Post by: Muerto on April 11, 2010, 11:11:25 AM
I just spoke to Allan, and he might be able to get 14" as well...

In order to get a better price, ha has to know how many monitors you guys want, so please write the number you would like :)
Of course nothing is ordered before we get a price.
Another thing is, that the monitors is shipped on a pallet, customized! (they don´t come in their own box :( )
so to be on the save side, pickup at Allans place is recommended.. - he lives close to the banish border :)

If there´s any questions, please ask :) - also i see if i can come up with some pics of the monitors :)

That would be nice. As mentioned in André's topic, I would be interested in 4 or 5, semi-flat of course, depending on the price. It would be nice to know which chassis comes with them.

where is the Banish border?  :D

If it would be the Danish border, than it still is quite a trip. no problem though, if we do it smart and don't go driving individually to pick up monitors. This should be done centralized, for instance for all dutch (or Dutch and Belgian) buyers. Something like that. It will save time and costs.

Well, Michael, if you can have 14" Hantarex, I'm ok for 2 (or 3, if the price is good).
About the Banish border, I'm far away ... but maybe we can find a solution later.

And Erik's reply: +1  :D.

tadaaaa! - was working way to late to update anything yesterday...

First, it seems like the 19" tube can no longer be ordered :(

The prices: inclusive a better chassis than mine :)
14" monitor 999DKK,- minimum 5 stk
21" monitor 1249DKK,- minimum 5 stk
25" monitor 1449DKK,- minimum 5 stk
29" monitor 1649DKK,- minimum 5 stk
I did´nt get a chance to speak to allan after i received his mail, but im thinking the price will go down the more monitors we order.

@jcp
Allan has no problem in taking 5 14" monitors, if you only take 2 or 3 (he don´t mind having something in stock)

to clarify the "upgrade" in the chassis; the chassis i bought with my monitors, looks a bit cheap, so rather than buy something that is not ok, i spoke with allan, which wanted to upgrade the chassis to a better quality...

Title: Re: Monitors.
Post by: ckong on April 13, 2010, 08:26:25 AM
The curve on the monitor looks OK to me, but too bad that he can't supply 19" or even 20" monitors.  :-\

About the chassis: which chassis (31079, 31080) comes with which size monitor (I have never seen such an 'empty' chassis like the 31080)? The breakout control PCB of the 31079 is convenient. What is the name of the manufacturer of both chassis?

I would like to know these values, following this picture on the 21" model :

A : the measurement between the two holes (from the center of the first hole to the center of the second hole° ?

B : Idem

C : the measurement of the visible picture diagonal

Thanks.

Excellent question Bruno. We may be able to fit 21" in 19" spots...

I did find some hope for full monitors from the far east, with real round tubes and 20"....

Keep your fingers crossed !

P.S., if someone wants to take a business opportunity.....a 20' container fits 200 of 20" CRT monitors.....now all we need to know is the price.....

The chassis are definitely Wei-yah (the new one's).

Ken Layton from the BYOAC forum says he has good experiences with them. (He's been repairing arcade monitors for about 30 years...)

ok, thanks for the info André.

If we decide to buy from Allan here´s some ground rules...
The way it goes is that he places the order (3-4 days to confirm), he pays, and wait for them to arrive (2 months!) so it would take a while for them to get here (Denmark)...

Let´s wrap this up, if you like to buy some monitors, please PM me:

As I have most of my cabs in storage somewhere, and therefore am not able to check if 21" monitors fit in the following cabs:

Galaxian (or Pac-Man)
After Burner II
Galaga (or Ms. Pac-man)

Preferably without having to cut away wood or something, could someone tell me if this will work?

Michael, your supplier is sure that he can't get 19" or 20" semi-flat monitors? and should we also not wait for the outcome of the possibility that André is talking about above (real round tubes and 20")?

:'(  And I believe that André can't get them either, at least not for a reasonable price (André did you contact Craig in the UK?). So changes to get them are even more worse then I thought. I expect best alterantive, despite the lack of horizontal width adjustment, are CRT TV's. Fortunately we have a 'rommelmarkt' in our village soon, there are always some used and proper sized tv's to find, for prices you can only laugh about (two beers are more expensive).
Title: Re: Monitors.
Post by: level42 on May 03, 2010, 05:39:03 PM
Yeah the CRT TV's are thrown out by the dozens every day. However, I'd like to get some brand new tubes now that I've seen the Kortek.....

I may have found a source for cheap new CRT TV's near your place Erik, would you have time to drive up there some time to check it out ?

What about Craig Erik, did I miss something ? (more likely forgot something).

Answering my own question: On the guy's site the 21" is mentioned to have a A51ELD031XA10 tube. The 51 stands for 51 cm, and that's FINE for us !
Remember that manufacturers started mentioning tube diameters by the outer sizes in later years. So 19, 20, 21" are almost always the same.

So, can we still get those ?

has just got of the horn with allan, and he says it wont be a problen as long as we at least buy 16 (he is willing to take a few (4 or 5) in stock) but the more we buy, the cheaper it gets.

_THOUGH_ if we are interested in buying we must decide in max 14 days (remember, it takes 2 months for the stuff to get here!!!) and he need to get some stuff for himself as well....

The chassis are coming in 7, 9 and 11 pinout, and he will gladly order some of those as well, the price for the cheap ones are 300DKK and the "expensive" ones is 400DKK (41€ and 54€)

Allan just wrote that we should minimum take 12 21", and the price for one monitor with the good chassis is 1249DKK (168€)

He also says that he will order 8 14" monitors (jcb, are you still in for 4??) price for each monitor with the good chassis is 999DKK (135€)

Michael : 4 is too much for me (see my old messages), I need about 1 to 3 monitors in fact (14inch).

Well.......I can't guarantee anything. It's actually pretty strange. I just checked the CRT number on my brand new Kortek and it says A48. So that's 48 cm. in diagonal.
BUT, the tube on f.i. a Hantarex that I had around says A51, and I'm pretty sure the size of the holes for the bolts are equal on both. I have a feeling that somewhere in time, sizes started to be different while they really were not different.....

Since the CRT from Denmark is mentioned as A51 on his site (Michael could you confirm this) AND since the Hantarex also has a A51 you'd expect them to match, but it's very possible they don't match exactly. However, it should be possible to hack it in anyways right ? ;)

Well, as you know I'm still in the process of finding monitors directly from the far east, and finally on a good trail.

I guess people are on the brink because of this. My source _can_ deliver true "ball" monitors as they name them. The chassis are also Wei-Yah's.

I asked some more questions for details and a pro-forma order plus if it's possible to get a sample monitor to see if it will fit (very important) and judge the quality. Also asked what brand CRT's they use.

I'm aware this may be hurting Michael's offer so by any means, if you want to get it through Michael go ahead, I think his option may be more sure than mine. I mean, I will have to have a considerable amount (30 or so) to order to make it feasible.

OR we have to find someone with some spare money to invest in this deal for a full container.

I know this thread is a logn way along... but I see these are going to use Wei-Yahs for the chassis.

have you checked these are going to do the job - I bought some of these a while back as "drop in replacements" for G07 chassis. Well yeah if you want a pincushioned monitor that'd make a vector collector laugh and the picture half the size!

So just warning you it'd be worth checking thoroughyl before committing.

If anyone wnats said "drop in G07 wei-yahs I have 10 of them gathering dust if your feeling brave  ;)

Regardsless, keep it up and if these were proven to work perfectly I'd be intersted too!

Sounds like they have sent the wrong yoke impedance version ? For the record, I am either looking for a CRT + chassis combination OR complete monitors including frames. Of course I expect these to be 100% OK. That's also why I asked a sample.

By the way, why replace a G07 chassis, it's easy to fix and a great chassis....
