This is my first post ever in this forum.
I'm considering to buy an original DK arcade cab. This is something I already dream of for more than a decade or so. It will be my first classic cab. The cab is technically working 100% and cosmetically in pretty good condition (see pics). But there is one strange thing: both sides of the cab have bolts in them from the outside to the inside, where the side art is, and they don't seem to have a function (see pic 3). I suppose this is not original and if I buy the cab I would like to restore the sides as they were originally.
My question: can someone give me some advise about the paint to use after I filled the holes of the bolts and repaired some other wood damages? Which color code (Ral code) should I use. And where could i buy new sideart? Mamaemarquees?
Here are a few pics:

Welcome here, nice cab !

Hi Ckong :) I'm the same Joeks as from Nozomi.nl.
The bolts through the sides are original as far as i know. The 2 bolts closest to the back of the cab are for support of the upper metal monitor bar. The other three bolts are for use with a horizontal monitor frame, like the Popeye cabinet. Although most of the time you'll find a DK cabinet only has the two bolts closest to the back.
About the color, i don't know the RAL color. But I should get a paint chip of the cabinet to your nearest paint store to get it color matched.
I found some paint codes on BYOAC forum but those are all for american paint brands. I guess they are no use to us europeans. Could be wrong there though.
The sideart you can get at www.quarterarcade.com. That's where i got mine, for my scratch build DK cabinet (www.donkeykongarcade.blogspot.com) - which still isn't finished
Good luck!

Nice cab :o
Un jour elle sera mienne, oh oui, un jour elle sera mienne!

Hi Joeks,
it's a small world after all, isn't it? I really love this DK cab, and if I'm honest more so than the Japanese Candy cabs I have.
So you think the bolts are original? In that case I don't have to remove them after all, which makes life easier. Although cosmetically the cab would be nicer without them, if they are original, they stay.
The idea of taking a little wood chip for color matching is a good idea, thanks. :)

Looks like this is in The Netherlands?
I would buy it :ghost: :ghost: :ghost:

OK, I found a picture in this forum of a Popeye cab, which indeed has the bolts on the the side. So it's likely that the DK cab is in fact a Popeye > DK conversion. Should I worry about that?
-
Not at all IMHO.
The bolts "belong" there, it's original say keep them. Also, the side art and sides look very good indeed, I wouldn't do much about it.
Where are you from Ckong and welcome !

is this cab for sale in The Netherlands? if so, what is the price if I may ask
and may I state, that to me, it's kinda weird that you are only CONSIDERING to buy a cab that you have dreamt about for over 10 years, and you are unsure about some minor details, the screws in the sideart. Or is the price extremely high?
:ghost: :ghost: :ghost:

The price is always too high ;)
I hesitate because I already spent a huge amount of money on game related items this year (PCB's, candy cabs), so much that I promised my wife not to buy any more 'expensive' stuff. :-[
So, if I buy this cab I have to let go some other items to finance the purchase. And taking the replies in this topic in consideration, I probably will just do that. :D I mean, when will I get another chance?

...or better, if you want to do in addition a cool 'Arcade Life Style' Story, take the entire cabinet with you like I did for this Ms Pac Man ;)

I read that story a while ago. Very amusing, especially the girl at the cash desk
But I might do that in fact, better than chipping of some wood of such a beautiful cab.

OK guys, I bought the Donkey kong cab yesterday. (and Fitter also as a matter of fact :o ) I will collect the cab within a week, so expect a nice road trip report. I can't wait to have the cab in my house and inspect it thoroughly and to determine the needed restoration works.

YES!!! congrats on the catch :spaceace:
